Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Lowe/Starr.
Hi Amber, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey began long before I became known as Houston’s Millionaire Matchmaker. I grew up splitting my life between Houston and East Texas. My mother is from Houston, and my father was from East Texas, giving me the best of both worlds. Houston exposed me to opportunity, diversity, and big dreams, while East Texas taught me faith, family values, discipline, and hard work.
Entrepreneurship runs deep in my family. My father, Rex Rountree, was a Marine and an entrepreneur who taught me lessons that still guide me today. One of his favorite sayings was, “You can’t take the relationship out of the relationship business.” He understood that people do business with people they know, like, and trust. One of the things I admired most about my dad was his ability to make people laugh, not cry, in order to earn their business. Long before I became a Comedian, he showed me the power of humor, relationships, and authenticity. I caught the entrepreneurial bug at one of my father’s grand openings and knew from an early age that I wanted to build businesses, create opportunities, and make an impact.
Today, many people know me as Houston’s Millionaire Matchmaker. I am also proud to be recognized as the world’s only Matchmaker Comedian, combining two professions built around human connection. Matchmaking is part of my family legacy. I am a second-generation matchmaker. My mother unofficially matched and married many of her friends to their husbands, and remarkably, neither of us has a divorce on our matchmaking record. Watching relationships flourish through genuine connection helped shape my understanding of people and ultimately became the foundation of my career.
Over the years, I have built a career as a Comedian, Award-Winning Media Personality, Journalist, Television Producer, Publicist, Entrepreneur, and Matchmaker. My work has allowed me to interview influential leaders, work with national brands, produce television programming, and help businesses, authors, nonprofits, public figures, and community leaders amplify their visibility through media and public relations.
As Managing Partner of Amber Lowe PR & Productions, I built a company dedicated to helping businesses, authors, nonprofits, public figures, and entrepreneurs gain visibility through strategic public relations, branding, media placement, television production, and content development. Through this work, I have helped clients elevate their message, secure media opportunities, develop their brands, and transform their expertise into platforms for greater impact. Amber Lowe PR & Productions became the foundation for many of the larger media, educational, and entertainment ventures that would follow.
In 2026, I made the decision to rebrand professionally as Amber Starr, a deeply personal tribute to my late father, Rex Rountree, who passed away in 2018. The name change was not about reinventing myself. It was about honoring the man who helped shape me. My father often signed his name “RRountree,” emphasizing the double R. As a tribute to his legacy, I adopted the double R in Starr. Every time people see the name Amber Starr, they are also seeing a piece of my father’s influence carried forward. Through that legacy, I continue the values he taught me about entrepreneurship, relationships, leadership, integrity, and treating people well.
The Amber Starr brand serves as the foundation for Starrverse Media LLC and Starrcast TV, Music & Academy, a multimedia ecosystem dedicated to entertainment, education, entrepreneurship, and empowerment. Through these platforms, we create opportunities for entrepreneurs, entertainers, authors, artists, and community leaders to tell their stories, build their brands, and expand their influence. We are currently in pre-production for our flagship television series, Starr Match, an innovative relationship and dating show that combines my expertise in matchmaking, entertainment, and television production.
One of the defining moments of my life came in 2021 when I lost my baby sister, Autumn, to suicide. That tragedy changed the trajectory of my life. While the loss was heartbreaking, it also ignited a new sense of purpose. I became determined to help others navigate stress, adversity, and mental health challenges while pursuing their dreams.
In 2024, I accepted a challenge at PeerFest, a premier mental health leadership conference presented through The University of Texas and supported by the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health. Drawing from my personal experiences as an entrepreneur, entertainer, and survivor of profound loss, I created a workshop focused on suicide prevention, mental wellness, and helping entrepreneurs and leaders persevere through adversity.
What made the experience especially meaningful was that the workshop’s effectiveness was formally evaluated. Competing alongside approximately 149 other workshops and presentations, my program received the highest evaluation score at the conference. The recognition validated not only the concept of using comedy as a tool for healing and resilience, but also demonstrated that the curriculum was producing measurable impact. The experience transformed a personal mission into a proven model for helping people cope with stress while pursuing their goals.
That recognition opened doors to educational opportunities and led to the development of youth-focused curriculum centered on entrepreneurship, branding, leadership, media, resilience, mental wellness, and suicide prevention. I was given the opportunity to bring those lessons into the classroom, helping Students pursue their dreams while developing practical life and leadership skills. Watching Students discover confidence, purpose, and possibility became one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.
The momentum continued in May 2025 with the grand opening of Corporate Comedy LIVE! Institute. What began as a response to personal tragedy evolved into a movement dedicated to combining comedy, entrepreneurship, leadership development, mental health awareness, and suicide prevention.
As Custom Comedy Mental Health Pioneers, Corporate Comedy LIVE! was founded on a simple but powerful belief: laughter can be a tool for healing, resilience, communication, and human connection. Through customized workshops, speaking engagements, curriculum development, leadership training, and organizational programs, we help individuals, entrepreneurs, Students, and workplaces address serious topics in an engaging and impactful way.
Our signature philosophy, #SeriouslyFunny, reflects the heart of our mission. We use comedy to create safe spaces for meaningful conversations about stress, mental wellness, leadership, personal growth, and suicide prevention. By meeting people where they are and helping them laugh while they learn, we have created a unique approach that turns difficult conversations into opportunities for transformation.
Our work has since been recognized nationally, including receiving a Gold Presidential honor for community service and our innovative contributions as Custom Comedy Mental Health Pioneers. Today, Corporate Comedy LIVE! continues to demonstrate that laughter is more than entertainment. It is a bridge to healing, hope, resilience, and lasting impact.
Looking back, every chapter of my life has prepared me for the next. The entrepreneurial lessons from my father, the matchmaking legacy passed down by my mother, my career in comedy and media, the creation of Amber Lowe PR & Productions, the launch of Starrverse Media LLC and Starrcast TV, Music & Academy, the devastating loss of my sister, and the healing power of laughter have all converged into a mission much larger than myself.
Whether through matchmaking, comedy, media, education, public relations, television production, or mental health advocacy, my goal remains the same: to help people connect, heal, grow, and transform their story into a legacy. From Houston’s Millionaire Matchmaker to the world’s only Matchmaker Comedian, from Amber Lowe PR & Productions to Starrverse Media LLC, and from Corporate Comedy LIVE!’s #SeriouslyFunny movement to the future launch of Starr Match, every endeavor I pursue is rooted in one belief: people are most powerful when they are connected to purpose, community, and each other.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road, but I have learned that challenges often become the foundation for your greatest purpose.
As a woman in media, comedy, entrepreneurship, and television production, I have often found myself working in industries where I had to prove myself repeatedly. Early in my comedy career, I faced sexism, racism, rejection, and the reality that opportunities were not always distributed fairly. There were times when I was underestimated, overlooked, or told that my goals were too ambitious. Instead of allowing those experiences to define me, I used them as motivation to keep growing.
Entrepreneurship has also come with its own set of challenges. Building brands, launching companies, producing television projects, and helping clients achieve their goals requires resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to take risks. Like many entrepreneurs, I have experienced financial setbacks, failed ideas, difficult partnerships, and moments where I questioned whether the sacrifices would be worth it. Those experiences taught me how to pivot, persevere, and trust the process.
The most difficult challenge of my life was losing my baby sister, Autumn, to suicide in 2021. Nothing prepares you for that kind of loss. Grief has a way of changing your perspective on everything. For a period of time, I had to learn how to move forward while carrying heartbreak. However, that tragedy also helped me discover a deeper purpose. It inspired me to create programs, workshops, and initiatives that help others navigate stress, mental health challenges, and adversity while pursuing their dreams.
Another challenge has been balancing multiple careers and identities. People often know me as Houston’s Millionaire Matchmaker, but I am also a Comedian, Media Personality, Journalist, Television Producer, Publicist, Educator, and Entrepreneur. Sometimes people want to place you in a single category because it is easier to understand. I have learned to embrace being multidimensional and to trust that my unique combination of experiences is actually one of my greatest strengths.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that success is rarely a straight line. It is a series of pivots, setbacks, reinventions, and breakthroughs. Looking back, many of the obstacles that seemed frustrating in the moment were actually preparing me for the opportunities that followed.
Today, I view challenges differently. They are no longer roadblocks. They are assignments. Every challenge I have faced has taught me something valuable about leadership, resilience, faith, relationships, and purpose. Those lessons continue to shape not only who I am, but also the work I do through Starrverse Media LLC, Starrcast TV, Music & Academy, Amber Lowe PR & Productions, and Corporate Comedy LIVE!’s #SeriouslyFunny mission as Custom Comedy Mental Health Pioneers.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I am working on my one hour stand-up special to be streamed exclusively on Starrcast Tv !
It’s called “Make Church Great Again”.
.I am a roast Comedian and so I like to go in on topics that other people are too scared to talk about like all the church hurt, fake church ladies, creepy Pastors, and prosperity preaching, and people that are going to a place like church to heal.sometimes end up getting traumatized more when they go to the wrong one.
My grandparents were Missionaries and had me in the word, so I find it hilarious the way so called believers are so judgmental, gossiping, backstabbing and full of ego. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice, The ego is the death of all relationships.
The funny part about this story is that when I was five years old, I had my first encounter with God and he gave me a premonition that said “when you grow up, you’re gonna see gospel on TV you’re going to be famous and you’re gonna marry a Pastor”, but the only problem is he didn’t tell me I was gonna be a roast Comedian first.
I hope I don’t get canceled for this one. Ha!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m an Empath. I feel everything on a super deep level, People lie, energy don’t.
Because of this spiritual gift, it makes me super introverted.
No one ever understands why I shake like a leaf before I perform.
