Conversations with Analisa Paige Ramos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Analisa Paige Ramos

Hi Analisa Paige, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hey! I’m Paige, 28 from Kenai, Alaska. As a young adult, descendant of Indigenous Alaska, and first generation Mexican American, becoming a successful entrepreneur was something I always knew I was meant for. It was 2015 when I decided a career path in medicine wasn’t going to be my future. I was posting my #MakeupOfTheDay for a while when a local MUA reached out and asked me if I would be interested in a career in makeup, which she would mentor me in my first big wedding party as her assistant. Quickly falling in love with the Bridal Makeup industry, I knew this was going to be my path. I started taking any inquiry for makeovers, homecoming, photoshoots, special occasions. Not putting myself in a niche MUA category, to master any and all techniques I got the opportunity to. Doing prom/graduation makeup turned into soon being the clients wedding day, and then maternity photo shoot MUA over the years. Growing client connections for any special day in their lives is what kept me motivated to keep improving my craft. Recently relocating to Houston has brought challenges with building clientele, though it has lit the fire in me to work harder and stay passionate about my work. I hope to inspire other artists to feel the confidence to start over somewhere new and reinvent themselves as many times as opportunity knocks.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As mentioned before, starting over in a new location has presented the challenges of reaching new clientele. Fortunately in Houston, there are more resources to market businesses locally, and even find clientele for your business to service. Other challenges I’ve been faced with in the starting years of my makeup business are around the preparedness with being a mobile MUA. Growing a fully prepared kit for every occasion and skin tone takes TIME. Knowing what client requests I can fulfill or not. For example, airbrush foundation. I am experienced in traditional makeup application, and it’s important that potential clients know what style of makeup I offer. It’s okay to say no. Give yourself extra time! There will always be a bridesmaid or MOB that declined makeup upon quoting the bride, that changes their mind when they’ve seen the way I can accommodate any client preferences. Someone doing their own makeup will always ask for a pair of tweezers, eye glue, or help applying their false lashes — of which deserved compensation. I’m still growing my backbone after years of experience.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Making your wedding day/special occasion makeup goals come true is my specialty! Trends come and go, but timeless, and enhanced natural makeup will always be in. My artistry style has a natural approach, especially for the first consultation. Working closely with my clients on how they want to present themselves in their best light is something I will always strive to achieve.
Being in fashion show artistry has reminded me that I am more than a bridal makeup artist, and can apply myself to a new work environment with confidence, because my experience got me where I am today. Quick and efficient is my jam!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Ok, story time. I had a bridal consultation with a client I’ve never met. I went to her house occupied by 8 cats and 2 dogs, of which all paid interest to my makeup kit. The bad luck? When I asked the bride if we could put her cats in a different area than we were working, or move to a better area where the cats wouldn’t contaminate my kit-the cats won. Asking about pets has become apart of my client questionare. We live and we learn!
When you never give up on growing in your passion and your career, there is no luck, but opportunity when you put yourself out there. Using social media as a tool to reach out to other creatives in need of artists will have a positive outcome! Some people will say no thank you, or that they are looking for someone with more years of experience in a specific niche of makeup artistry. If you are hungry enough, and present your work in a professional manner, there will be someone that values your willingness to learn their techniques and give you a chance.
