Today we’d like to introduce you to Andreanna Dotie.
Hi Andreanna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My hair journey started as a braider, just for supplemental income. I realized there was a huge market here in Houston for hair and so I decided to create a business. I was still working as an Athletic Trainer and then Covid happened. I lost my job, but I went to work [for myself] and I haven’t looked back since. I decided to expand my business so I went to cosmetology school. I split my time between Paul Mitchell The School and Franklin Beauty Institute. Both schools taught me different things so I’m very thankful for my time at both. I knew after school I wanted to specialize in extensions. I was certified in Microlinks specifically. Today, I am 2x certified in extensions and tape-ins and I provide these luxury services in the Houston Heights.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not smooth. It’s been tough, a journey—my journey for sure. Believe it or not, the hardest thing has been believing in myself and my abilities and knowing I deserve all of this. This is mine. I’ve lost a lot, maybe even a little of myself, but I never quit even when I want to or other people think I should. God and I built this from the ground up and anything worth having is worth fighting for, so I keep going, struggles and all.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Luxury Extension Specialist. I offer Microlinks, Sew Ins and Tape Ins. I started with Microlinks, they are still my favorite thing to do. I love making extensions look like they’re growing from my client’s scalps, but more importantly, I love being a piece of their peace. I have some of the most beautiful clients, inside and out. There’s a million hairstylists in Houston alone so it makes me proud when people choose me. I am what sets me apart from others—from customer service to my knowledge and skills. I am extremely passionate about what I do and my clients can feel that. It’s an experience for sure!
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in God and what’s for me will never pass me by. When you put God first, especially in the business that is when things will align. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I can feel when I’m in alignment and when I’m not. When I’m not, I know to redirect my focus to the source and when I am, I know to keep going in that direction.
