Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Lazzaretto.
Hi angela, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Lazzaretto started because Angela couldn’t find skincare that actually worked for her.
She played soccer for over 30 years, and between the sun, wind, sweat, her skin needed refreshing. She had always dealt with dryness and sensitivity, but as she got older, her skin became even more sensitive.
Like many people, she wanted to switch to “natural” skincare, something gentle, clean, and better for her body. But most of what she tried just didn’t work. Some products smelled strange, others felt too harsh, and most didn’t deliver the results she was hoping for.
So she and her husband Vince started reading. A lot.
They dove into the research, ingredient lists, clinical studies, skin biology, trying to separate fact from marketing. They wanted to know what truly supports healthy, aging skin, and what to stay far away from.
Eventually, they had a realization:
Angela wasn’t the only one frustrated by what was on the market, and if they couldn’t find a product that met their standards, maybe it was time to create one themselves.
That started a long search. They spoke with more than 30 manufacturers across the U.S. and Canada before finding the right partner, a U.S.-based lab that shared their values and had the experience to help them bring a truly clean, effective formula to life. Together, they developed a small but purposeful product line, science-backed, thoughtfully formulated, and made for all skin types. Especially dry, sensitive, and aging skin.
That first product became the foundation of Lazzaretto Skincare.
Lazzaretto is Angela’s last name, and putting it on the bottle was intentional. This was never just business, it was personal. She wanted to create something she could trust completely, and feel good using every single day.
Now, everything we make follows that same mindset:
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all, but we’re grateful for that.
When we started this journey, we weren’t coming from the beauty industry. We were just two people with a drive to figure things out, trying to create a product that actually lived up to its promises.
One of the biggest challenges early on was finding the right manufacturing partner. We spoke with over 30 labs across the U.S. and Canada. Some pushed generic formulas, others didn’t quite understand the level of quality we were looking for, and a few flat-out told us our expectations were too high.
There were definitely moments of doubt. We had no roadmap, no big team, and no guarantee that anyone else would care about what we were building. But we kept going, because we believed this was something people actually needed, and something we needed, too.
The process was full of trial and error. We spent a lot of time reading clinical studies, testing ingredients, and feeling overwhelmed by all of the information out there. But looking back, that’s what shaped the heart of Lazzaretto. We didn’t cut corners, and we didn’t settle.
Our biggest challenge now is getting the word out. In the early days, we poured all of our energy into making the best products possible. What we didn’t fully realize was just how much intention and strategy it takes to stand out in such a competitive industry.
It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth every step.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
angela and Vince didn’t plan on becoming a skincare founders. It really just started with trying to solve a personal problem. Angela had been dealing with dry, sensitive skin for years, and nothing she tried seemed to help. So they started researching, reading everything they could get their hands on, and asking a lot of questions. Vince is a data scientist, so diving into research, reading peer-reviewed articles, and making sense of complex information comes naturally to him.Vince helped us cut through the noise and focus on what really works. It wasn’t planned, but it worked.
We’re not trying to be everything to everyone. We’re just focused on making clean, effective skincare that actually does what it says it will, with the same care and curiosity that started this whole thing in the first place.
