Today we’d like to introduce you to Author Mya

Hi Author, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started writing when I was thirteen years old. I wrote fan fictions on Wattpad. My first publisher discovered me from a few stories on there and I published my first book at sixteen years old. I didn’t really take my writing career seriously until COVID hit. Despite having a degree in criminal justice and my original plan to go to law school, I took my career full time in July of 2021. I signed to B. Love Publications in July of 2021 and my career excelled. In the last three years, I have released 21 books. I also have a traditional release with national distribution dropping February 25th. My genre is Black / African American romance. I want to shine light on Black people falling in love–especially Black women. It’s so important to highlight Black stories and I do my best to do that.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a creative is never a smooth road, in my opinion. Especially with two little ones. Life can get very hectic which can stifle creativity. I’ve learned to work through my chaos. When we were between homes and staying in a family member’s guest room, I made a little space to write my books. That book became one of my best selling novels to date. There was a time when my baby who was ten months at the time spilled milk on my laptop, my pen sisters got together to pay for a new laptop. I appreciate the community I’ve made in the industry.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Black Romance author. I write Romance and Women’s fiction. My most known titles include: Burden of Love, Sincerely Her Gangsta, and Something In My Heart.

I am most proud of the community I have built through the books I publish. What sets me apart from others is I create relatable characters.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family makes me happy because even in my darkest times, they can find a way to put a smile on my face.
Reading makes me happy because I can escape from reality.
