Today we’d like to introduce you to Big Business.
Hi Big, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a local artist born and raised in Houston, Texas. As a child, I was into drawing almost everything, especially comic book, character and movie characters. I used to sketch and draw as a kid have a once I started working I stopped creating art. I didn’t pick up painting until the pandemic, which was almost 15 years later. my Art is inspired by Texas, African-American and Pop culture. I’m a huge Simpsons fan horror, fan and lover of 90s cartoons, So you See many of these as a reoccurring theme in my work. I also love painting the female for. I think most people have different taste in different styles and I find it fun, challenging and exciting to paint women of all shapes and sizes. Many of my pieces are collage made up of different characters. My dream is to one day be a full-time artist.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all taking a chance on your dreams, never is.
One of the most challenging things that I run into your dad some of my work has adult things which can be presented everywhere. I have to make sure that I don’t bring certain types of works to family-friendly places or churches for instance. It can be difficult finding the right places to sell your art or even finding the right people who may be interested in it. Staying true to yourself and your own style x lane Is extremely important and although it is important to take criticism and learn from it, it is equally important to not conform or change the way you do things because that is what makes you unique and stand out at the end.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The majority of my work is acrylic on canvas. They can range from a collage style that I do, portraits, cartoon characters as well as custom commissions. The best way I can describe it is that I can see the artwork like a puzzle in my head that I have to put together adding pieces and taking pieces away as the work progresses. I use references from the Internet, magazines, or things simply from memory. I couldn’t tell you what since me apart however I know that people always compliment me for my color schemes, my line work as well as my letter Work.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
taking risk if essential in any art form . I’m not afraid to paint whatever comes to my mind I don’t hold back on world of views, nudity, sexual content or anything else. I make my art for me. As long as it reaches the standards that I fit for myself, I am happy others loving it is great and extremely rewarding. However, what the audience thinks is not in my mind as I create the work.
