Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Duplantier.
Hi Blake, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Executive Chef Blake, a self-taught chef, recipe developer, food photographer, and husband and father living in Houston. I’m a native of the New Orleans Metro Area. I was raised in a home where the food was as great as the love among family and friends. My grandmother Rose was an incredible self-taught chef who began to bring me into the kitchen as a taste tester. This bonding piqued my interest in culinary arts, and I started catering for small family events at age 12. I enjoy cooking Southern comfort and creole cuisine and adding elevated touches to give classic dishes a refined finish. I began 5-0- Fare as a catering service as an homage to my hometown and to provide customers with my expressions on the food I grew up loving.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some obstacles have been rising food costs, and Houston is an extremely competitive food scene.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a private chef and caterer. I specialize in authentic Creole Cuisine. I’m known for my seafood gumbo, praline bread pudding, and Crawfish Monica. I’m most proud that my oldest daughter has found an interest in cooking from watching me get to do what I’m passionate about. I believe my passion, authenticity, dedication to freshness, and attention to detail are attributes that set me apart.
How do you think about happiness?
Seeing clients and family enjoying my food. Helping unlock memories from a time they visited New Orleans or a holiday through food.
