Today we’d like to introduce you to Bria Kelly.
Hi Bria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am born and raised in Chicago and recently relocated to Houston, TX. My journey to becoming a model has had its highs and its lows. Beginning as a new emerging model getting acquainted with the modeling industry in the Chicago market, to taking it more seriously, and be coming a freelance model. Trying to become signed to different agencies and hearing no to traveling to other markets to gain exposure.
In March I moved to another state and dived headfirst into a new market while also pursuing social media influencing (brand ambassador) which has opened an entirely new pool of opportunities for me and my modeling career.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some challenges I faced were my height. When trying to get picked up by a modeling agency, my height was an issue. The industry height minimum being 5’7 and me, being a more petite-sized model being 5’6.
I overcame this obstacles by putting my all into my shoots and my runway walk and really working to be the best version of myself as a model and brand so that my height would be overlooked by my work ethic and skill set.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Communication Specialist at a PR firm where we create communication materials such as marketing campaigns, press, media and help execute special events for our clients.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey is to always remember to be confident and focused. Once either disturbed you are bound to lose sight or detour from the goals you have set for yourself. I stay confident by practicing self-love. I do this by going to the gym, taking care of my body, my skin, my hair, my nails, and spending time with my family and friends. I stay focused by always reminding myself of my goals whether it’s this year, in the next 6 months, or even a few days. I do this by writing down a list of my goals, using sticky notes to remind myself of any goals I set for myself, and by using affirmations.
