Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Purr.
Hi Brittany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, my name is Brittany Purr. I’m a native Houstonian and a newly Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200). I grew up on the westside and now call the Heights home. I’m a proud mom to one pretty awesome kid, an amazing rescue dog, and 2 cats. If I’m being honest, I’m a little bit of a crazy cat lady and also have an outdoor cat colony I care for as well. I have always had a big heart for animals and a passion for helping others. In my neighborhood, I help TNR (trap, neuter, return) feral cats, while fostering and finding loving homes for the kittens, with the support of friends and neighbors. It’s been a beautiful reminder of the power of community, compassion, and connection.
I’ve always worn a lot of hats. I’m a hustler at heart, balancing multiple careers and creative passions. By day, I’m a self-employed mobile hairstylist helping people feel confident and beautiful. By night, you’ll sometimes find me behind the bar at Neon Boots, the historic local dance hall and saloon. I love the flexibility both careers offer and the opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life while expressing my creativity—whether it’s crafting the perfect cocktail or detailing the perfect haircut.
Creativity has always been at the center of my life. Years ago, I discovered pinup modeling as a way to combine my love of vintage fashion, retro hair and makeup, classic cars, and photography. What started as an excuse to grow my vintage wardrobe became so much more. I was honored to win the Miss Gulf Coast Classic pinup competition in both 2012 and 2013, and I’ve been featured in national classic car and international tattoo magazines, as well as lead role acting in a music video for a local band. Those experiences helped me build confidence, embrace self-expression, and celebrate the beauty of individuality.
Looking back, I can see how pinup modeling planted the seeds for my yoga journey. Both practices involve intentional movement, body awareness, confidence, balance, and being fully present in the moment. After years of juggling work, motherhood, and the everyday demands of life, I found myself burned out from constantly pouring into everyone else while neglecting myself.
Yoga came into my life when I needed it most. It taught me to slow down, reconnect with my body and breath, and realize that taking care of myself wasn’t selfish—it was essential. My practice became a path toward healing, resilience, and self-compassion. Over time, I started to see how my practice on the mat, was influencing my life for the better, off the mat. My patience grew as my anxieties lessened. My gratitude and spirituality strengthened. That journey led me to take the plunge and apply for YTT (Yoga Teacher Training) at The Space Between Yoga Studio. I initially signed up with no intention to teach, I merely wanted to deepen my knowledge for the practice. However, my beloved teachers gave me the confidence and inspiration to want to share the magic of yoga with others. I graduated the YTT program earlier this summer, becoming a registered yoga teacher, and am excited to start teaching public classes this fall.
At the heart of everything I do is a passion for helping people feel good about themselves and seeing the beauty in everything. Whether I’m styling hair, bartending, creating vintage-inspired art through pinup, or guiding a yoga class, I love creating spaces where people feel confident, seen, and connected. My goal is to encourage others to embrace who they are, express themselves authentically, and remember that caring for themselves is one of the greatest gifts they can give.
I’m excited to continue sharing my love of yoga, creativity, and community with the city that has always been home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been overcoming self-doubt and learning to embrace a path that doesn’t fit into a traditional box. I’ve always been someone with many passions and interests, and for a long time I questioned whether I was supposed to choose just one thing or follow a more conventional career path. Instead, I’ve learned that all of these different pieces of my life are what make me who I am.
Balancing motherhood, multiple careers, creative projects, and everyday responsibilities has also been a constant lesson in time management and prioritizing what truly matters. I’ve had seasons where I was stretched too thin, trying to be everything for everyone while forgetting to leave room for myself.
Through those challenges, I’ve learned the importance of slowing down, listening to myself, and trusting my own journey. In hindsight, the experiences that once felt like detours, were actually all shaping me and leading me closer to my purpose.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work has always centered around one common thread: helping people feel good about themselves through beauty, creativity, connection, and self-expression. I’ve never been someone who fit neatly into one box, and I’ve built a life around the different things that inspire me. I’ve spent years working in spaces where people come to relax, express themselves, and feel seen, from behind the hairstyling chair to behind the bar, and now through yoga.
As a recent YTT graduate, yoga is an exciting new chapter in my journey. I want to create accessible, welcoming yoga experiences that encourage people to reconnect with their bodies, their breath, and themselves. I believe yoga is for anybody and everybody, and it doesn’t have to look a certain way or fit into a specific mold to be meaningful. My goal is to create a space where people feel comfortable showing up exactly as they are.
What sets me apart is the combination of my creative background and my life experiences. My years as a hairstylist, bartender, and pinup model have taught me the importance of confidence, self-expression, and making people feel valued. I bring that same energy into my yoga practice by creating classes that are not only about movement, but also about connection, mindfulness, and finding joy in the process.
I’m most proud of having the courage to continue evolving and following my passions, even when they didn’t follow a traditional path. For a long time, I questioned whether having so many interests meant I lacked direction, but I’ve learned that every chapter has been shaping me and giving me new tools to share with others.
At the end of the day, whether I’m helping someone feel beautiful behind the chair, sharing a laugh across the bar, creating retro-inspired art through pinup, or guiding someone through a yoga practice, my purpose remains the same: to help people recognize their own worth, embrace who they are, and see the beauty that already exists within them.
