Today we’d like to introduce you to Celina Bustos
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I stared my career as a tattoo artist after finding no joy in what I was doing prior to. I worked as a waitress for many years and got my degree in education , which I worked for a short time. I finally decided to look for an apprenticeship for tattooing, it had been something I had been interested in and admired for a long time. I secured a spot at Von Striga art parlor and after working there for only a month I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I love every aspect of my job from my coworkers to the clients and just getting to draw cool and fun stuff all the time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe the idiom goes “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” There have been many struggles along the way and many more to come. I still have a lot to learn and experience to become the artist i want to be one day. One of the main challenges I had first started was trying to build a client base. This industry is very saturated and wanting to stand out amongst my peers was something I found hard to do. Staying relevant and keep creating new designs that will peek people interest is always something I will struggle with, but also keeps me moving and motivated.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a tattoo artist that also does traditional forms of art. I’m most know for my color work, I tend to do more illustrative subject matter like cartoons and graphic designs. I like to take a simple looking subjects and really pushing the envelope in terms of color really seeing how many different colors I can put the design. I think the thing that sets me apart if anything is my approach in the design i love making fun silly designs and think outside of the box.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important thing Ive learned is that that being kind and patient will get you further in life than you think. Being able to work with so many people and meeting new people constantly really showed me the just being kind makes all the difference in a tattoo session. People remember the experience of getting tattooed than the actual tattoo and it’s important to make a good memory for everyone you come in contact with.
