Conversations with Chaz Hardin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaz Hardin

Hi Chaz, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The initial thought of Furniture & Then Some began while I was still playing collegiate basketball. It wasn’t until my sophomore year of college that I had the vision of starting a furniture company—but not just any furniture company. My goal was to offer furniture and everything else a home could need, from design services to furniture installation.

Starting off was very challenging, and there were many times I struggled to choose between continuing my college basketball career and taking a leap of faith to start the company I envisioned. Once I decided to let go of basketball and focus on building Furniture & Then Some, my family didn’t agree with the decision. This made things tough while also trying to piece things together while still in college.

During the summer between my sophomore and junior year, I asked my grandfather to invest in me, promising to make it work. After receiving a small amount of startup money, I bought 10-12 pieces of furniture and stored them in my father’s garage. After everything was sold, I made a total of $500 and continued the same process, buying more and more furniture.

Now, fast forward to 2024, we have a website where we drop ship directly to our customers. We have also completely furnished and designed a law firm and multiple residential homes. We only plan to grow and show our customers and clients why Furniture & Then Some is where quality meets affordability.

The moral of the story is to always believe in yourself and never give up.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest obstacles I faced was gaining support and building a consistent customer base. However, when starting a company, this is only one of many obstacles one will encounter. Throughout my journey, I’ve learned that no matter what the obstacle is, there is always a solution—you just have to keep going and never give up.

Another significant obstacle I faced while developing Furniture & Then Some was taking risks. I look back and wish I had made certain moves earlier on. Sometimes the move you’re unsure about is actually the perfect one.

Lastly, I’ve learned to overcome the obstacle of not everyone seeing or understanding your vision. No matter what, you have to refuse to take no for an answer and see your vision through. It will always work out if you trust God and never give up.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
When you start a company, I believe you must first put your trust in God and believe in yourself 100%, no matter what anyone else has to say. One thing that separates the good from the great is consistency and the faith that everything will work out. Every company stands for something, and here at Furniture & Then Some, we are where quality meets affordability.
