Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Bryant.
Hi Cody, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from Louisiana, I sang in the church choir at 3 years old til I was in high school. I fell in love with music at a young age thanks too my older brother, I visited his dorm room as a kid and his roommate played Eminem and from then on I was hooked on rap/hip hop. I started writing poetry after seeing Kanye west on def poetry jam, and at 17 I started performing and doing spoken word on stages throughout lake Charles Louisiana. The age of 22 is when I started to take music seriously, 8 years later I would then move to Houston to further pursue my dreams.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I battled with low confidence early on in my life, a lot of self doubt, I still deal with it at times even today. I started to hang out with all the dope boys and hooligans til I became one of them. Thru the years I lost a few friends to either jail or the grave, and that’s when I made the switch to do something with my life
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an Artist/Rapper/Singer/Somgwriter/Poet
My music isn’t what you’d expect from a Louisiana native, but I embrace that and use to the best of my ability. When people hear “I’m from Louisiana” they instantly think Boosie, trill fam, jug music etc, then they hear my music and it’s never what’s expected but in the best way! I try not to limit myself in music but what I’m best known for is my poetic style of rap, and being a lyricist all though people say I should sing more lol
I think what sets me a part from others is my vulnerability, I allow myself to be seen in ways people wouldn’t get a chance to see other then hearing it thru my music
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Do It, if you love it and it fuels you and you want it, go get it! I wish early on I’d known tha sometimes you gotta choose yaself before trying to bring people with you.
