Conversations with Cristian Guzman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristian Guzman.

Hi Cristian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So I’ve been a shoe collector my whole life as a kid my mom would get me the new Jordan’s and it stuck with me all my life .

So in 2020 during Covid I lost my job as a general manager in a restaurant and didn’t have anything else at the time so I decided to start selling some of my shoes .
That’s when I started the space city collective instagram account early 2020 then in September me and my brother (business partner ) decided to open a store . Our first location we co leased with a smoke shop and I put hundreds of my personal shoes in the store to get things rolling , We were there for a year or less that’s when we decided to move and open on 45 south and Fuqua . We were at Fuqua for about 3 years until we recently moved to the pearland own center where we currently are .

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road our first year at the Fuqua location we got broken into a few times . From 2021 -2023 they broke in at least 5 times . They ran a U-Haul thru the front of our store one time and also rammed in the back of our location as well (different times)almost causing us to have to shut down . That was the main reason we moved to a more commercial location .
Also before we moved to our official first location my older brother was killed and that mentally put me in a really bad place in life , thankfully I’m healed .

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well aside from being a store owner and shoe connoisseur I’m also a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu jitsu and practiced MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)

What I am proud of the most are my kids and wife , I’m a father first before anything else .

What sets us apart is our customer service , we’re currently rated #1 shoe store in houston and have hundreds of 5 star reviews more than any other shoe store in the city .

How do you define success?
Everyone has a different perspective on success but I would say putting your people in positions to make money and have them succeed and inspiring others and helping where I can .
