Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Samper.
Hi Daniel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in a small town in Colombia called Ambalema, it is an agricultural town. My work comes from the organization of the plow lines. This is how my artistic language was born and little by little I understood my technique to develop my own geometric abstraction. They say that it is a very original work and that is what has made my work interesting for many people.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been easy and I am very happy that it has been so. That taught me that I have to be strong. The people who run the art world always want to take advantage of you, so you must learn to identify who you can go with.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I really like the geometry that I can abstract from landscapes and crops. I also like to see the viewer move around my art pieces. Drawing his attention and knowing what conclusions he draws interests me a lot. I am very proud that I can feed my children and pay for a good education. I think what sets me apart from other artists is that I don’t go through the art academy. So my career has grown very organically.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I learned that today is today and that we are very lucky if we live tomorrow. You have to live without so much hurry and enjoy the day.
