Today we’d like to introduce you to Darnell Minor.
Hi Darnell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My grandmother and mother were designers. Growing up in Los Angeles I watched them curate the spaces we lived in and also made their own clothes. I loved drawing houses and buildings, I thought I was going to be an Architect. I spent my younger and college years designing spaces and creating an atmosphere of people coming together but didn’t realize it until I realized that in these moments I am my best self and happy. One day a lightbulb when off and I decided this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. This is my God gift that brings people joy.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle I have is getting out of my own head. I spent so many years in my head creating these portraits and now people are seeing my work, I have to live my visions out loud and knowing that the imperfections is what makes the space beautiful. Oh and as a introvert I have to step out my comfort zone and talk to people haha
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist who create spaces. Most people would categorize me as an interior designer, but I prefer to be considered an artist because I consider the spaces I create to be art in forms of atmosphere and space. Every space is different, a one of one, I don’t have a niche market as of yet so I look at every opportunity to create something new and daring to challenge myself and sharpen my iron. My superpower that sets me apart is incorporating emotional regulation to capture the feeling in the room.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The art, my ability to use the very tool I have been given to create love, life, and purpose in spaces. That tool is my hands, I get into a flow that takes me out of this space and into a Godly space where I create visions that are not from me. To be able to do that will always be the priority, losing my connection from my source will cause to lose my why.
