Today we’d like to introduce you to Daviri Wallace.
Hi Daviri, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m originally from New Orleans, LA. I moved to Houston 4 years ago to start doing standup comedy. The passing of my father made me realize how short life can really be and that I must chase my dreams in hopes of improving my family’s lives.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My dad was killed in 2019 so not having him here to experience this world of entertainment with me is for sure the source of my overall sadness. Also I currently don’t have a car and being a comedian in Houston especially you need a car.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a standup comedian, there isn’t much I’m known for right now because it’s only be n a brief 3 year career but mainly people who know me well think I’m pretty funny. I’m most proud of the way I avoid hive mind thinking, there’s a lot of things that can pull you down in entertainment and I pride myself on staying away. My age is what sets me apart from others, I’m 24 but I’ve experienced enough to have the perspective of someone twice my age.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
It’s not about being funny, it’s about how you treat the people you know before they become someone everyone knows. If you’re funny it’ll just be twice as hard because you’ll see people with less talent doing more, so don’t get discouraged just remember it’s about the connections, your attitude, and hard work.
