Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawnyell.
Hi Dawnyell, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Houston. I graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts many moons ago.
I dabbled in the corporate world trying to figure out where I fit in.
But God has an awesome way of redirection. I call it my “Job” (long ‘o’) experience wherein in a matter of a few months, I lost pretty much everything. I was completely devastated to say the least. After some time, I realized that everything that was now gone, was replaceable or restorable.
My faith in God and discernment grew immensely during this trying season. A major part of my healing was going back to art as an expression of what I could not verbalize.
I believe that we are all here to create. I decided to cultivate my creativity and share my inner antics through visual art because it’s nourishing.
The simple version is that I create fake/faux food that looks good enough to eat. I have been honored to share TasteTheFakery creations as props, food replicas, and home decor.
TasteTheFakery is a visual reminder that things are not always what they seem and that we often “eat” with our eyes.
I always lead with the fact that “it is all fake”, non-edible, toxic if consumed, and made of things you can find in a hardware store. Yet, folks inevitably respond that they now want whatever “food” they were presented with. Why do we crave what we know is not real?
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been and will be bumps, but God is my shock absorber. He has never failed me and I can navigate life with that assurance.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Creating fake food pieces may be new to some, but a quick internet search will reveal that it’s far from an exclusive club. Making faux food through TasteTheFakery brings me joy.
My pieces are made with REAL love and that definitely comes through in the details.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
God is the reason that I can do what I do. He gave me the gift and has put me in a position to share TasteTheFakery with others.
