Conversations with Delana Richardson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delana Richardson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Selling hair has always been something I have desired to do; I love wearing hair extensions, and the different textures are just like eye candy. When I started looking around me in life, social media, etc. I noticed that other people feel the same way about hair as I do. Your hair is your crown you never want to take off; it makes you feel bold and gorgeous inside and out, no matter the length.

Before 2022 ended, I reflected on my life; I knew I wanted different and more for myself but didn’t think I had the funds to start a business; I had a lot of self-doubt, and I just kept thinking, what if this doesn’t work out. When I found out I was pregnant and knew, I was going to be a single mom, that made me push for my dreams more because I also knew that if God gave me the vision it was for me. After giving birth, I worked two jobs to save money; I continued to do research, network, and learn as I go with the resources I had until I was able to get my business up and running.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not been a smooth road. I’ve had setbacks but learned to embrace the challenges because they taught me a lesson. Being a single mom, juggling work, coaching club volleyball, school, and a business has been a lot, with trying to be consistent in posting and creating content. However, I am grateful for my support system because it helps and allows me to balance the things I love to do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an educator and club volleyball coach. I teach Life Skills known, as Special Education, at a specialized campus with high-intensity behavioral students. My students learn general curriculum and daily living skills such as folding clothes, learning how to cook, and educating themselves with vocational tasks that are more hands-on. Two days out of the week, I coach club volleyball at TAV Houston. I am known for my work ethic, dedication, and motivation. I am most proud of being a coffee bean that’s boiled by transitioning meaning, being a more optimistic, positive, and creative person. That’s what sets me apart from others.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking is vital, I’ve always heard the saying, “It’s not about what you know; it’s who you know.” Starting my business has made me put myself out there more. Once I realized by networking with my peers and those around me, my business began to grow and made me more open with talking to people. Asking for help when I need it has worked for me, whether that be in my career or personal life. Those connections I’ve made also helped me build positive relationships with people who will push me to my full potential to keep going no matter how the road may seem.
