Today we’d like to introduce you to Devonte Jackson.
Hi Devonte, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’m Tey Boogie (born name Devonte Jackson). I’m originally from Richmond, Virginia, born on the east end. I moved to Houston, Texas, in 2012 in hopes of getting into a career of songwriting specifically, but I soon seen I wanted to make my own music, so that’s how it started in 2014; I released my debut project titled “ Mosby “ named after the neighborhood I grew up then, and the rest was history for my own personal accomplishments.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road; I mean trying to make a name for yourself without any real backing and also being in a totally different state is what made it almost undoable for me. Even with the trials and tribulations for me, I still was able to create a catalog of multiple releases with the backing completely credited to myself humbly.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, I can say I’m a “rapper“ but in reality, I’m just a regular person who was just blessed with the gift to create the sound to the things that I been and go through. I honestly never had to aspirations to be a rapper, and it’s funny how it’s turned into a pivotal part of who I am today 10 years removed of when I started.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just keep going, know when to fall back, and know when to go full throttle; it’s easy to say what you want to do, but it’s more of a challenge to actually hit the ground running and make it happen. Also, don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t work out the way you want it to, but the fact is that you at least tired; always remember you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take
