Today we’d like to introduce you to Eduardo Luis Loo
Eduardo Luis, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story starts at 6 months old. I know- it sounds crazy, but that was my first radio event. My mom and dad worked in traditional media, my dad as radio personality and my mom did accounting for the same company. I grew up surrounded by microphones and speakers and computers and all the technical things that come with the territory. During my my junior and senior year in high school, I became more interested in current events and the reporting of political stories. It was during this time that I realized there was a lack of content being made for hispanic audiences that had to do with stories I saw being covered in english media. Straight out of high school I was able to work in radio as a digital content creator and morning show producer for a Regional Mexican radio station in Austin, Texas. During this time, I was able to create a social media centric show that brought in revenue by producing the radio morning show but as a livestream with sponsors. During the pandemic, I was able to have a morning show on a Spanish Contemporary radio station where I had the opportunity to keep our community in Austin informed through special reports and conversations with local officials. In 2021 I was offered the job of show producer for “El Show de Raul Brindis” in Houston, where I was tasked with what I considered to be “the translation of traditional media into the digital space.” I produced a 4+ hour video live stream for social media, where I treated the radio show as a tv production for a whole new audience and engaged with short content audiences through TikTok, Reels and Shorts which really gave all of that shows content a different platform. Before “El Show de Raul Brindis” got cancelled, I began creating content by myself under the name “Eduardo Luis presenta…” (Eduardo Luis presents…). I started off by having podcast conversations with people in my life who I admire and whose stories I wanted to share. Now, a lot of the more “regular content” on my Youtube channel and Podcast platform is based on current events (ie: political, centered in immigration, soccer, gossip) and their context within the hispanic community living in the US,
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been blessed. Growing up with a dad who professionally communicated with an audience definitely helped me “find my voice.” However, for a while I struggled with figuring out “the right way” to communicate with a hispanic audience who has been used to a very specific way of hearing news reports or information that some might deem “not important.”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
“What do I do?” is a complicated question. I’d like to think of myself as a creator of media. Apart from all of my radio work, I also freelance as a TV/Stream director and a professional video editor. But in a more general sense of my “day job”, I’m known for being on the radio with some pretty important personalities in Austin and Houston. I’m most proud of having this opportunity to learn and share what I’ve learned with my audience. Unfortunately, in my point of view, there hasn’t been a generational shift in Spanish radio, so I think what sets me apart is my age and my desire to reach traditional media audiences and those in the digital space.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
In terms of podcasts, I think the MKBHD Waveform Podcast is great if you want to know about the latest tech, I’m a huge tech lover and an early adopter to new tech. I mainly try to try all the new tech to see if there is a more efficient way for me to work and create the media that share. Everyday I tune in to the Philip DeFranco Show for the most relevant news stories and the David Pakman Show for political analysis. The Colin and Samir Youtube Show and Podcast is a great resource to learn about the creators in the digital space and their strategies to grow from media to business. Tom Buck has a Youtube channel that focuses on production hardware that has shown me new gear to improve my media production.
