Conversations with Edwardo Reyes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edwardo Reyes.

Hi Edwardo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in a tough Houston neighborhood in the southeast, where the odds weren’t exactly in my favor. I was raised by a hardworking single mother, surrounded by the harsh realities of drugs, gangs, and poverty. But I also saw strength, loyalty, and hustle — values that stuck with me. I eventually landed a career in the railroad industry, climbing the ranks to become a local union vice president. Life was moving fast, and I thought I had it all figured out.

Then I suffered a serious back injury that changed everything.

Three surgeries later, I found myself staring at the ceiling, unsure of who I was without the job I’d worked so hard for. I was at my lowest, mentally and physically — but it was in that moment, through God’s grace, that I started to rebuild. That pain forced me to slow down, reflect, and figure out what kind of legacy I wanted to leave. That’s when the vision for DAM Trucks was born.

DAM Trucks isn’t just a mobile LED advertising company — it’s a mission. A way to give voice and visibility to local businesses that move culture, fuel dreams, and do good for the community. It’s also a second chance for me to create something meaningful with my own two hands. Every ad we run, every business we highlight, is part of a bigger purpose: to help entrepreneurs win and to show people that no matter how hard life hits, you can come back stronger, smarter, and more driven than ever.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road — more like a rollercoaster with no seatbelt.

Starting DAM Trucks came after one of the darkest chapters of my life. Recovering from a serious back injury and undergoing three spinal surgeries was brutal. I went from being a provider, a leader, and a hard worker… to feeling lost, physically limited, and mentally defeated. There were days I couldn’t even get out of bed, and nights I asked God why this was happening to me.

On top of the pain, we were destitute. I’m talking real struggle — hoping the food bank had meat that week, and being grateful when it was just beans and veggies. We weren’t just hurting physically or emotionally — we were trying to survive. It humbled me in a way that only hardship can.

But sometimes the breakdown leads to the breakthrough.

Building DAM Trucks from scratch has come with its own set of struggles — everything from learning a completely new industry, to figuring out business leases, to fighting self-doubt while trying to create something that had never been done in my circle before. There were financial risks, sleepless nights, and moments where I questioned if I was doing the right thing. I didn’t come from money or have a business mentor — I came from survival. But that survival mindset taught me how to stay resilient, how to adapt, and how to keep pushing even when the road gets rough.

The hardest part wasn’t just learning the business — it was becoming the kind of man who could carry the weight of a vision this big. And I’m still growing, still learning, and still walking by faith every step of the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the founder of DAM Trucks, a mobile LED billboard company based in Houston that’s all about high-impact, community-driven advertising. We specialize in showcasing businesses, brands, and events in a bold, visual way — using a massive digital screen mounted on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter truck. But what we really do is tell stories. We create campaigns that turn heads, spark conversations, and drive people to take action.

What sets us apart is the intention behind everything we do. We’re not just selling ad space — we’re curating who we work with. We highlight businesses that are reputable, creative, and rooted in culture. Whether it’s a local restaurant, a family-owned barbershop, or an up-and-coming brand, we want our truck to feel like a rolling spotlight on the best of the city.

We’re also flipping the script on how advertising is done. Instead of stuffing people with content they don’t relate to, we’re giving visibility to entrepreneurs and voices that actually resonate with the streets, the neighborhoods, and the culture. We mix creativity, hustle, and heart in every campaign. No generic ads — just real people, real stories, and real results.

I’m most proud of the integrity behind this brand. We built it from nothing — no investors, no big backing — just grit, vision, and a crazy amount of faith. And we’re creating something that not only looks good but does good. DAM Trucks is about impact, not just impressions.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Honestly… it’s gonna be harder than you think, and more worth it than you can imagine.

My advice? Start ugly. Don’t wait for the perfect logo, the perfect time, or the perfect plan — because none of that matters if you don’t have the guts to take the first step. I started DAM Trucks with no real background in business, while still recovering from major back surgeries, and we were broke. Like, food bank line broke. I had every reason to wait. But I just decided to move anyway.

I wish someone told me how mental this journey is. You’ll question yourself more than anything else. You’ll wonder if you’re crazy. And the truth is, sometimes you are. But if you can stay focused on why you started, you’ll find a way through.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep adjusting. The version of me that started DAM Trucks is not the version sitting here right now — I had to grow into this.

And if you’re feeling like you’ve hit rock bottom, just know — that’s solid ground to build on.
