Conversations with Fady Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fady Wilson.

Hi Fady, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
We are two self-taught photographers, Fady Wilson in Katy, TX, and Alexandra Seda in Philadelphia, PA. Our story starts in Philadelphia, PA where we started taking pictures during the COVID lockdown to pass time after work and during weekends. However, Alex was more of an established artist, running her fashion and lifestyle photography business.

So our work started with my modeling for her a couple of times and then using my phone to just take photos alongside. She encouraged me to use her camera now and then, but I hesitated because I didn’t want to break it or anything. Cameras are expensive you know! Anyway, after a while, my sibling was getting married and so I had my reason to buy a real camera and use it to its full extent. And as they say, the rest is history. Alex and I collaborated on taking photos for a mutual friend’s wedding as well, which turned out fantastic!

We are actively working on reaching newer audiences and sharing our artwork with the public. Our photos are meant to bring you (the viewer) to a specific moment where you look, ponder, and feel. We want the viewer to feel what we felt at the moment we took that picture. It’s a way of marking that moment in time for us, and wherever our viewers may be, we want them to connect with us at the moment.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No skill is acquired easily, and no skill is maintained easily either, and the best journeys are always the bumpiest. For example, we both have full-time jobs, so managing that and maintaining our photography skills takes dedication and intention.

Another struggle is bringing the photos to the public and making a living off of that is not as easy as setting up a social media account and sharing away. Those are some of the challenges along the way; nonetheless, we always come back to photography because sometimes it’s easier to show you what we feel than tell you how we feel.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in the art of bringing the viewer with us on a journey of sensations. Our goal is to evoke a positive calm feeling in this ever-chaotic world that we live in. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like I just need a break, and sometimes that break comes at a point in time.

Organically, and unexpectedly. It just presents itself, and CLICK! Now I have captured it, I can show it to you and everyone else, and bring you with me to how I felt at the time. We all need hope and positivity, which we consistently and proudly focus on.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
Our advice to those who are just starting in photography:

-Have fun!

-Learn > Always be a student. Learn online, and learn with someone.

-Experiment > Use your equipment and try its functions at least once.

-Ask for input > Take all opinions with a grain of salt and some lime, but do not get discouraged. You can only get better.

-Get involved with others who share similar interests.
