Conversations with Fancy Hayes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fancy Hayes.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love for radio started long before I ever owned a station. I’ve always been fascinated by the ability of music and conversation to bring people together. Radio was one of the few places where people from completely different backgrounds could share a common experience, and that connection always inspired me.

I spent years learning the business, developing as an on-air personality, building relationships, and understanding both the creative and operational sides of broadcasting. Along the way, I noticed that many talented people never got an opportunity because they lacked access, guidance, or a platform willing to take a chance on them.

That realization planted the seed for what would eventually become On The Beat Radio.

In 2024, I launched On The Beat Radio with a simple vision: create a station that values talent, community, and authenticity. I wanted to build a platform where DJs, artists, hosts, and creators could grow while still preserving the spirit of radio that made so many of us fall in love with it in the first place.

Today, On The Beat Radio reaches listeners around the world through digital broadcasting platforms, live programming, specialty shows, and a growing team of passionate personalities. One of the things I am most proud of is creating opportunities for others. Watching people gain confidence, develop their skills, and find their voice has become just as rewarding as being behind the microphone myself.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t change the journey. One of the biggest challenges has been building an independent radio station from the ground up without the resources of a major media company. Every role—from programming and scheduling to marketing, training, and operations—requires time, commitment, and a willingness to learn.

Another challenge has been earning credibility in an industry where independent platforms often have to work twice as hard to prove their value. There were moments when things didn’t go according to plan, technology failed, schedules changed unexpectedly, or opportunities didn’t materialize the way I hoped. Those experiences taught me resilience and adaptability.

Perhaps the biggest lesson has been understanding that growth takes time. We live in a world that celebrates overnight success, but most meaningful accomplishments are built one step at a time. I’ve learned to trust the process, stay focused on the mission, and keep moving forward even when progress isn’t immediately visible.

Every challenge has strengthened my leadership, deepened my faith in the vision, and reinforced why I started On The Beat Radio in the first place. Looking back, the obstacles weren’t roadblocks—they were lessons that helped prepare me for the next level.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the Founder and CEO of On The Beat Radio, an independent digital radio station dedicated to music, culture, community, and opportunity. While many people know me as an on-air personality, my work extends far beyond the microphone. I oversee programming, talent development, content strategy, marketing, and station operations while working closely with DJs, hosts, producers, and artists from across the country.

What I specialize in is creating platforms and opportunities. One of the things I recognized early in my career was that there are countless talented individuals who simply need access, guidance, and a place to showcase their abilities. Through On The Beat Radio, I have been able to provide that space while helping preserve the authentic spirit of radio.

What I am most proud of is the community we’ve built. Watching new personalities grow in confidence, develop their skills, and find their voice is incredibly rewarding. I believe success is even more meaningful when you can bring others along with you.

What sets me apart is that I approach radio as both a creative and a service. While entertainment is important, I also see broadcasting as a way to educate, inspire, connect, and create opportunities for others. My goal has never been to simply build a station—it has been to build a platform that empowers people and leaves a lasting impact on the culture.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would say resilience has been the most important quality in my success. Building anything meaningful requires the ability to keep going when things don’t happen on your timeline, when obstacles arise, or when others don’t immediately see the vision. I’ve learned that success isn’t always about being the most talented person in the room—it’s often about being the person who remains committed when challenges appear.

Resilience has helped me navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, broadcasting, and leadership. It has taught me to adapt, learn from setbacks, and continue moving forward with purpose. Equally important is authenticity. I’ve never tried to build my career by being someone else. Whether I’m behind the microphone, mentoring talent, or leading On The Beat Radio, I believe people connect with genuine passion and sincerity.

At the end of the day, talent may open doors, but resilience, consistency, and authenticity are what keep them open.
