Conversations with Griselda De Leon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Griselda De Leon

Hi Griselda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up understanding the value of hard work through my father, who was a jack of all trades. His adventurous spirit took him around the world, and he exposed me to the fast-paced life of New York while we lived in Puerto Rico. One thing that always stuck with me was when he’d say, “I have no boss and can do as I please.” I admired that freedom and knew I wanted the same advantage—but I didn’t know how to achieve it.

While working in the hospital, I grew tired of not having control over my time. I wanted to be a present parent and give my daughter the life she deserved. But with today’s tough prices and rising costs, I realized I had to learn how to manage and grow money if I wanted true financial freedom. That realization led me to the world of financial education.

What started as a personal journey quickly became a mission to help others—especially women and the Latino community—take control of their finances. I began hosting workshops, webinars, and one-on-one sessions, focusing on strategies like “paying yourself first” and leveraging tax-free accounts. Along the way, I’ve built a team across different states, united in the mission of helping people achieve financial freedom.

I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with many amazing organizations focused on women’s empowerment, small business growth, and community education. These partnerships are ongoing, and I present in person at events, bringing confidence and empowerment directly to the people I connect with.

I’m passionate about education, confidence, and execution. I believe it’s important to care for yourself and become the person you need to be to achieve true freedom. Today, as a licensed financial professional and educator working across multiple states and Puerto Rico, I help clients build generational wealth and shift their mindset from just earning to thriving. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m proud to say that through my work, I’m not just building a business—I’m creating a movement.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not, it’s been anything but smooth! I’ve faced a lot of challenges along the way, but those struggles really helped me grow into the person I am today. One of the hardest parts was learning to hold myself accountable. I had to take a step back, reflect, and get real with myself about what I wanted and what it would take to get there. It wasn’t easy, but I knew that if I wanted to keep reaching my goals, I had to mentally toughen up and raise my expectations.

There were plenty of moments when self-doubt or fear crept in, but I kept reminding myself why I started: to build a better future for myself, my daughter, and the people I want to empower. I’ve learned that growth isn’t always comfortable, but it’s so worth it. The more I pushed myself, the more I realized I could inspire others to do the same.

It’s been a bumpy road, for sure, but every challenge has helped me become stronger and more focused. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that taking care of yourself and setting high expectations is the key to achieving true freedom, not just for yourself but for the people you want to help along the way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a financial educator, licensed financial professional, and community broker specializing in helping individuals and families take control of their finances, build generational wealth, and achieve financial freedom. My work focuses on empowering women and the Latino community to make informed decisions about money, whether that’s learning how to “pay yourself first,” understanding tax-free accounts, or creating a plan for long-term success.

What I’m most proud of is seeing the ripple effect of my work. Whether it’s a client who’s finally started saving for their future, a mother who feels confident teaching her kids about money, or a young entrepreneur who’s building their first financial plan, those wins are what drive me. I’ve also built a team across different states who share this mission, and we’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with organizations that focus on women’s empowerment, community education, and small business growth.

As a community broker, I’m also passionate about connecting individuals from different industries to transform their communities. I believe that collaboration is key, and when we come together, we can create real change that goes beyond financial success.

What sets me apart is my passion for education and connection. I make financial literacy relatable, approachable, and tailored to real-life situations. I understand that money can be intimidating, but I create a safe space where people feel confident asking questions and taking control of their finances. My personal experiences like being a single mom and navigating my own financial journey, help me relate to my clients on a deeper level.

At the heart of what I do is a belief in the power of education, confidence, and execution. I’m not just helping people manage money; I’m helping them build the life they deserve, one step at a time.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The Covid-19 crisis really changed my perspective, especially since I was fresh out of college and jumped right into the respiratory field. It was heartbreaking seeing people at their worst, fighting for their lives, and it made me realize that I didn’t want to just be in a reactive role. I wanted to be on the other side, helping people take control of their futures before tough times hit.

During the pandemic, I realized how important it is to not only have protection for what’s most important to you but also to better understand money. I was making good money at the time, but I didn’t know what to do with it. That experience really opened my eyes to how crucial it is to understand how to manage and grow your finances, especially in times of uncertainty.

This led me to seek out ways to protect myself financially and learn more about managing money—things I hadn’t been taught growing up. I realized that being prepared, financially and emotionally, for the unexpected is key to creating long-term security.

This experience eventually led me to focus on financial education, helping others build that same security and understanding, so they don’t have to feel lost when it comes to their finances. The pandemic taught me that life is unpredictable, but with the right knowledge and preparation, we can face whatever comes our way.
