Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Evans.
Hi Jacob, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Jacob Evans has taught music since 2018 but has been playing musical instruments since 2008. After studying music at the University of North Texas, he moved home to teach music and perform for live audiences. In his 4 years of teaching students privately and in groups, he had the idea to start a music school for young musicians to gain insight on his musical methods and the unique methods of his staff. After many years of performing, teaching, and gaining an understanding for this industry’s trends, Just Music can create a musical foundation for every student that shows interest in the art form of music.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Jacob Evans is a performer, teacher, and entrepreneur that holds a bachelor’s degree in music performance from the University of North Texas. Before moving to Denton to attend Music School, Evans lived in Magnolia, TX his whole life and attended THE Magnolia High School. During his time at UNT, he studied extensively with Mark Ford, Paul Rennick, Christopher Deane, Ed Smith, and Poovalur Sriji. He has experience teaching students individually and in group settings and made a living out of running his own private lesson studio for the last three years. While in school he performed with various chamber groups, world ensembles, wind bands, the symphony orchestra, and the 2 O’clock Lab Band on vibraphone. After graduating, he was a part time marching band technician and a fry cook at Texas Roadhouse. He moved home in 2021 to focus on teaching private lessons for piano, percussion, and drumset, as well as assist with percussion duties in the Magnolia High School band cluster. During his time teaching privately, he tried to learn the psychology of each student and their age group so he could help them improve to the best of their abilities. While a teacher, he was also active performing jazz, rock, funk, and popular music in restaurants, weddings, and jam sessions. In doing so, he learned how to interact and compose with fellow musicians on vibraphone, percussion, and piano.
