Conversations with Jacob Previlon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Previlon

Hi Jacob, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been creatively inclined, ever since I was a kid. No matter what I did, I had to put my own creative spin on it. Being a twin also shaped a lot of my mindset early on—I’ve always said, “I already have someone who looks like me for the rest of my life,” so when people would try to match my style or do things similar to me, it was a turn-off. That pushed me to be different, to stand out in a way that couldn’t be copied even if someone tried.

In high school, I really got into fashion, and my older brother introduced me to thrift shopping. I instantly fell in love with it because it was a fun way to build a wardrobe where no one around me would have the same clothes—if I did it right. Around the same time, I joined a photography class, and one of our assignments was to take photos of each other. My partner took a shot of me and kept calling me a model. I laughed it off at first, but when I really looked at the picture, something clicked. That moment shifted my mindset from wanting to be behind the camera to wanting to be in front of it.

From then on, I used my thrift shopping skills to put together unique outfits for photoshoots that my twin brother and I would brainstorm. When I got to college, I heard about a modeling group on campus and knew it was the perfect opportunity to take things to the next level. After a couple of years, I decided it was time to go even further—I started applying to agencies. Since I had family in New Jersey, I focused on New York agencies so I could commute from home.

Eventually, one agency reached out, saying they loved my brother and me as a duo and wanted to sign us. About a month in, after doing a few test shoots, we got the call that we were being considered for our very first runway show—in Milan, Italy—for none other than Gucci. I screamed so loud my neighbors started knocking on my door, thinking something was wrong!

At first, we were only put on hold for the Gucci Twinsburg show, meaning we were going for a casting but weren’t guaranteed a spot in the show. When we landed in Italy, it was a surreal moment—our first time having a driver holding our names on a whiteboard at the airport. Then we arrived at the hotel and saw twins everywhere—old, young, Black, white, bald, hairy—if you were a twin, you were there. The casting process was intense. People were getting dropped daily, sometimes even while eating in the dining hall. If the casting directors didn’t like how someone looked in a fitting, they were sent home immediately.

For four days, we heard nothing. We just noticed fewer and fewer twins around us. On the last day, we finally asked someone, and they said, “If you’re still here, that means you’re in the show.” My brother and I just looked at each other, and our hearts sank to the floor. We had made it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

Definitely not. The journey has been anything but smooth, but I think that’s what makes it all worth it. One of the biggest struggles was figuring out how to stand out in an industry where everyone is trying to do the same thing. Growing up, I always wanted to be different, but in modeling, you have to balance standing out while still fitting the look that agencies and brands are searching for. It took time to find that balance.

Another challenge was rejection. Modeling is an industry where “no” is something you hear way more than “yes.” There were times when I’d send out applications to agencies and never hear back or go to castings and get passed over. It can be discouraging, but I learned that every “no” just meant I wasn’t in the right place yet.

Financially, it wasn’t always easy either. Traveling for castings, test shoots, and investing in my portfolio all cost money. There were moments where I had to make tough decisions and really bet on myself.

But I think one of the biggest struggles was self-doubt. When you’re putting yourself out there—whether in modeling, photography, or any creative space—it’s easy to question if you’re good enough. There were times I wondered if I was wasting my time. But every small win reminded me why I started, and eventually, those small wins turned into big opportunities.

At the end of the day, I wouldn’t trade the struggles because they’ve made me more resilient. The road wasn’t smooth, but it led me exactly where I needed to be.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an artist and creative, I specialize in bringing unique visual storytelling to life through photography, videography, modeling, and music. My work is a reflection of my individuality—whether it’s through my personal style, the way I capture moments, or the narratives I bring to life through my art. I believe creativity is limitless, and I aim to push boundaries in everything I create.

What sets me apart is my perspective. Growing up as a twin, I was always intentional about standing out and carving my own lane. That mindset influences everything I do—I don’t just follow trends; I create them. Whether it’s curating a unique aesthetic, producing captivating visuals, or crafting music that resonates, I always strive to leave an impact.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the authenticity behind my work. Every project I take on is a direct reflection of my creative vision and passion. My goal is to inspire others to embrace their individuality and express themselves without limits.

For those looking to collaborate, whether it’s through photography, videography, modeling, or music, I bring a fresh, creative edge to every project. I’m here to turn ideas into art and make sure every piece of work stands out in a way that feels both meaningful and innovative.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Success is never a solo journey, and I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without the people who have supported and pushed me along the way. First and foremost, my twin brother has been a huge part of my creative journey. From brainstorming photoshoot concepts to supporting each other in the modeling industry, we’ve grown together, and I couldn’t imagine doing it without him.

My older brother also played a big role early on—he introduced me to thrift shopping, which sparked my love for fashion and individuality. That small influence shaped my entire approach to style and creativity.

When it comes to my modeling career, I have to give credit to the casting directors that took a chance on my brother and me. They saw something in us and gave us the opportunity to walk one of the biggest runway shows of our lives. That moment opened doors I never thought possible.

And of course, my friends and family have been my biggest cheerleaders. Whether it was sharing my work, hyping me up before castings, or just reminding me to keep going when things got tough, their support has meant everything.

No one achieves success alone, and I’m grateful for every person who has played a role in my journey.
