Conversations with Jamie McPherson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie McPherson.

Jamie McPherson

Hi Jamie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Jamie McPherson is the owner and lead designer at JDesigns. My journey towards floral design began over two decades ago when I became a Master Gardener thru the Texas Ag Extension. I have always had the love for flowers. I would always be asked what is my favorite flower. My reply, anything that blooms. I began working at a flower shop, and it all blossomed there. I launched JDesigns in 2016, and it has quickly become one of Houston’s premier wedding and event florists. We also do weddings all over Texas several times a year as well as out of state at times.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As with any business, in the beginning, it is always a bumpy ride. It smoothed out about year 3 but still has bumps in the road from time to time. Every year, I learn something new and make changes. One of the first struggles was saying no, or I am booked. The biggest struggle was during covid shutdown and rescheduling 35 weddings.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
JDesigns specializes in weddings, large events, galas, quinces, and sympathy work. I am known for out-of-the-box designs. I like different & bold designs. Lots of color. What sets me apart is giving personalized service from the initial consultation to the day of the event. We strive to make sure every arrangement is perfect. I take time to understand the client’s vision and bring it to life.

What am I most proud of? Getting published in Weddings of Houston magazine twice and Texas Weddings.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I like out-of-the-box, bold colors. When I meet with clients, I always ask, are you the wild child or more traditional? This tells what type of designs they tend to lean towards. Me personally, I am the wild child.
