Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine and Garland Breedlove.
Hi Jasmine and Garland, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Breedlove Smokehouse was born from a constant in our relationship, which was cooking. We love cooking together. We were both unemployed in 2019 due to our son’s severe persistent asthma, which caused us to spend a lot of time at Texas Children’s Hospital ICU. We were doing all the app-based gigs that could be done together. But it wasn’t enough. The holidays were around the corner, and we needed to make ends meet. Garland loves to que’ in any weather except lightning/thunder. Jasmine has a background in administrative/clerical in the field. And everything else we could figure out between the both of us. So, we started with smoked turkey orders for Thanksgiving. We had a great response from our community. We had ten turkey orders to fulfill for Thanksgiving. Christmas, we had five turkey and four briskets. People really loved our food. We decided to try pop-up shops. Our first pop-up shop was the Hello Sweets’ Fall Pop-up Shop last November. This is when we decided to take Breedlove Smokehouse more seriously as a business. Ever since that event, we are hooked on the pop-up shop culture.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has been bumpy but satisfying honestly just having the courage to take a leap of faith has been the hardest part. Obstacles like not having a food truck or trailer limits our ability to attend some amazing events and post up locations and because we are a self funded small family business sometimes home has to come first. We make sure to not let these things discourage us from pushing forward with our plans and dreams for the business.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a BBQ catering service. We specialize in brisket, ribs, and chicken. We are known for our brisket, ribs, smokehouse nachos, and BamBams. We are proud of our versatility. We are able to add a smokehouse spin to any cuisine. We show that versatility with all of our menu items. Our love, time, seasonings, energy, and commitment to every item we put out there sets us apart from others in the HTX BBQ world. One of our main goals is to make people feel the 90s type of love and dedication that we put into our food. It feels amazing when we see the expression on our customers’ faces.
Any big plans?
Plans include a food trailer with an attached smoker for events and competitions, and hopefully, that leads to a brick and mortar down the line but it’s not necessary for us to feel successful. We’re looking forward to being able to participate on bigger platforms and get our unique take on BBQ to the masses. We’re actively working on opening an online store and offering sauce and seasonings blends for Brisket Ribs and Chicken for people who want to cook at home. Country-themed signature dishes with our Smokehouse twist are in the lab while we cant give those away yet having someone from your magazine over for the tasting would be great. We are also looking to partner with some of the local little league teams to help fill the appetites of the hungry patrons and players.
