Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Lu.
Hi Jasmine, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
From the earliest moments of my childhood, my journey was illuminated with a love for creation and design. I started pursuing art in the third grade by taking private lessons, and ever since, I have had an immense passion for art. Whether it was learning how to oil paint or shade with Prisma color pencils, I constantly created to my heart’s content, painting and drawing for hours on end. Eventually, during my high school career, I started creating art professionally and entering art competitions. I placed in multiple awards and even earned national recognition for my art, and this fueled my determination to continue designing. Now, I am a senior in high school, and I have decided to enter the field of mechanical engineering to blend my passion for art with the technical aspects of design and innovation. Ultimately, I hope to foster a greater admiration for art and to utilize my artistic skills to benefit the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Things have not always gone perfectly for my journey. I have faced numerous challenges and setbacks along the way that have tested my resilience and determination. There have been moments when self-doubt crept in, making me question my abilities and choices. I’ve had times where I had difficulty balancing my artistic pursuits with demanding academic rigor, and I have experienced doubt and critique that made me question the validity of my chosen path. Nevertheless, I continued venturing onward and pushing myself to follow my passions despite the adversities. I learned the art of resilience, understanding that setbacks were not indicators of failure but opportunities for learning and growth.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a student artist who resides in Cypress, Texas. I specialize in oil painting, Prismacolor drawings, and shadings, but I like to immerse myself in various artistic mediums. I am most proud of my portrait painting of a traveling Tibetan lady because it is my largest and most defined piece, and it reminds me strongly of my own grandma. What sets me apart from others is that I have an eye for precision, spending a large amount of time fixing up my artwork and perfecting every tiny little detail. I also have exceptional skills when it comes to color and spatial awareness. I am able to identify multiple shades of color and tones within a single object which helps in adding critical components to my art pieces, and my perception of placement and shapes is a strong component within my creations.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I am deeply indebted to my family and friends for their unwavering support throughout my journey. I could not have gone this far without them. They encouraged me every step of the way, and I am incredibly grateful for their support. My grandma had one of the biggest roles in my success, guiding me and providing the determination I needed to persevere and pursue my goals. Additionally, my older sister, who began art before me inspired me to follow in her footsteps in becoming a proficient artist. Last but not least, the greatest credit for my achievements belongs to my art teacher, Mr. Sha Mo. His mentorship not only imparted comprehensive knowledge but also nurtured my talents and fueled my passion for art.
