Today we’d like to introduce you to Jassmine Gonzalez.
Hi Jassmine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Houston, and from a young age, I’ve always had a passion for video editing and storytelling. I was the kid running around family events with a camera in hand, capturing moments any chance I got. As I got older, I experimented with YouTube and content creation, but I never fully pursued it because I was focused on building my corporate career.
After an unexpected layoff in 2024, I decided to take time for myself and travel. While traveling in Colombia, I started creating fun videos for friends and sharing my experiences online. That’s when people began telling me, “You’re really good at this.” Soon after, a friend connected me with an opportunity to create content for a hotel, which naturally led to collaborations with local restaurants and other businesses abroad.
When I returned to Houston, I started reaching out to local businesses and partnering with them to help showcase their spaces, stories, and communities through content. What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into something much more meaningful, it made me fall back in love with the city I grew up in. Through this work, I’ve been able to connect with passionate business owners, hear the stories behind their brands, and experience the culture and heart that make Houston so special.
Now, after a year and a half in content creation, I’ve had the opportunity to build genuine connections within the community and collaborate with many incredible local businesses. I’m excited to continue showcasing the people, places, and experiences that make Houston unique, helping businesses gain visibility, grow their audience, and connect with both locals and visitors through my perspective and storytelling.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges getting into content creation was overcoming self-doubt and learning to take my creativity seriously instead of just as a hobby. Starting from scratch also meant learning how to market myself, build relationships with businesses, and navigate the uncertainty that comes with a creative path.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work focuses on creating content that helps showcase local businesses in an authentic and engaging way. Through filming, editing, and storytelling, I aim to highlight make viewers feel connected to a place and encourage them to explore more of what Houston has to offer.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think both good and bad luck shaped my journey. Getting laid off in 2024 felt like bad luck, but it led me to travel and discover my passion for content creation. I believe luck can open doors, but consistency and hard work are what turn opportunities into something meaningful.
