Conversations with Jo Kerr and Cara Les

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jo Kerr and Cara Les.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
WAPNews all began, with two unemployed, miserable, comedically underrated amateur reporters. Both weeping on the living room floor, hot boxing in celebration of the anniversary of Roe vs Wade. During the peak of our intellectual brainstorming, we decided it was time to take to the streets to document the radical activity of protestors outside the Planned Parenthood on Gulf Fwy in Houston, Texas.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Finding our voice has been one of many struggles. For anyone, approaching a stranger for a simple favor is nerve-wracking. Approaching people about their staunch political views on camera adds an extra layer of stage fright. Our first attempts at interviews consisted of attention-grabbing satirical skits that included Cara Les disguised as a pregnant woman enjoying her American Spirits and “praying” alongside Pro-Lifers. Footage that will forever be sealed in the vault.

We knew we wanted to protect reproductive rights; we just didn’t know how. Even after toning down the satire and updating to a more modest wardrobe, we found the heated passion of the radical protestors at times could be brash. We were unable to present any of our prepared questions. Most of our interviewees buried us in circular reasoning and testimonial preaching. Leaving us still to wonder, what are we in this case if we remain silent?

Also, editing several hours of footage is challenging without prior experience.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re just two women having human experiences. One is a dog walker for elite celebrity pups (all remain nameless) and the other is serving Italian food at a restaurant downtown. Both are completely unsure how to pay rent next month. Our platform is free. Projected through our lens of the world in front of us. WAPNews isn’t activism, it’s a distraction in the form of strange realities.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Every morning tell yourself who you are before anyone else does. Believe in your capabilities. Create delusions of grandeur. Because who wouldn’t we want to revel in their impressive endeavors? Maybe a reality in which others finally see your purpose will manifest as a result. That reality can only start if a stable foundation of self-reflection and love is nurtured within. In our case, we still find time to laugh at past, present and future selves. We advise everyone to do the same. Finally, hire someone else to edit your content.
