Conversations with Kassidy Motal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kassidy Motal.

Hi Kassidy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi y’all! I’m a writer and a marketing, hospitality, and event specialist. I became interested in event planning back in high school at St. Pius X. My involvement with cheerleading and student council, paired with having friends in bands who needed help promoting their shows, ignited my passion.

During my time at Texas State University, I continued following the path of planning events by majoring in Mass Communication – Public Relations and joining the Student Association for Campus Activities. After two years of volunteering for the organization, I was voted into an employed position as the Music and Entertainment Coordinator. My senior year, I was chosen for the prestigious role as the very first Director of George’s, the on-campus bar named after country superstar and famed alumnus George Strait, where I programmed biweekly concerts and events, like cult movie nights and game nights. I was also selected as Employee of the Year.

Band management, booking, and publicity became one of my great loves. (Shoutout to Almost Failing and Stecker!) I interned at Propaganda Media Group in San Marcos, becoming the first intern they ever hired on after graduation. This experience resulted in freelance publicist positions with Crowley Artist Management and Wilory Records and as talent buyer and bar manager at the legendary Hole in the Wall in Austin.

I then moved into bartending and managing bars in Austin, San Marcos, and Houston, always stepping forward to develop signature drink menus, help plan cool events, and being an early adopter of creating and running social media accounts. Bartending at live music venues Warehouse Live and Bayou Music Center/Revention was especially fun, fulfilling multiple interests concurrently. I spent some time managing and piercing at a tattoo shop, matchmaking at a dating service as Assistant Director of Membership Services, and owning and running the business side of my own hair salon. I was also the first Sailor Jerry girl in Houston, working as promo model and Brand Ambassador for 7 years, where I planned and executed many parties and events.

I have now spent 14 years doing social media marketing and management for an awesome variety of tattoo shops and tattoo artists, bars and restaurants in America and Asia, liquor brands in America and Vietnam, hair salons, bands, burlesque, circus, and comedy productions in America and Vietnam, podcasts, therapists, non-profit organizations, business coaches, fabrication and property improvement companies, ice cream shops, record labels, event venues, photographers, hair and makeup artists, and American, Asian, and Australian craft beer brands! I extensively traveled around Southeast Asia and eventually lived in Vietnam for more than a year, which afforded me many opportunities I wouldn’t have otherwise been aware of, but that my interests and experience were a perfect match for!

This journey has brought me to Hawthorne House, a stunning historic mansion-turned-venue in the heart of Montrose. We are Houston’s premiere boutique venue for intimate special events and celebrations, as well as photo shoots. I performed business set-up activities, and I am the venue manager, social media manager, and event planner.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With a large variety of interests, skills, and experience, the most challenging thing for me is remembering to not spread myself too thin! There are so many things I “can” do that I need to focus on what I really “want” to do. I’m one of those former gifted kids who has a tendency to be a people pleaser, so setting boundaries and choosing the right projects are key to avoiding burnout.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
The thread that connects so many of my passions is the written word. I love to read, I love to write, and I love to edit. I am passionate about traveling and experiencing new things, and it’s so rewarding to be able to share those adventures with others. I’m a natural helper and cheerleader, so come to me if you’re looking for a recommendation for something particular (like where to get tattooed – Rock of Ages in Austin!). I love to hype up my talented friends or share beautiful, delicious things I have enjoyed. Social media is the perfect vehicle to crash those passions into each other!

Whether it’s for event planning or general brand/business awareness and awesomeness, I create custom visual and written content and/or curate relevant content for social media platforms. I grow followers and increase exposure through a strategic engagement method by conveying a fun personality and trustworthy tone and by using consistent branding. I love to immerse myself in the world and industry in which I’m working to remain up-to-date on trends and best practices to reach goals and target demographics. I am an excellent proofreader and editor, always ensuring proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and all-over flow.

I provide any kind of writing or editing assistance you may need. I have a flair for sentence structure, and I can help flesh out your ideas. I truly enjoy helping others put their best selves into the world!

I’m a great communicator, I’m easy to work with, I’m fun, I bring a variety of experience to the table, and above all – I CARE. I will always go above and beyond for you to make sure your star shines bright!
