Conversations with Katie McIntyre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie McIntyre.

Hi Katie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was a Stay at home mom of 4 young children, originally from the UK, my husband and I moved to Houston in 2005. I always enjoyed baking and saw a recipe online for making cake pops and thought I would give it a go. Well, my family loved them so I started making them for my kid’s birthday parties, Christmas parties, etc. I then had a few friends reach out and ask if I could make some for their kids’ Birthdays and Baby showers. At that point, I realized I could make a business from this so I decided to create a business profile and set up a Facebook page and advertise and post my work as a Cottage Baker. It’s been nearly 5 years and my workload has increased massively, it’s now a full-time job and we have a Facebook page with 1.1k Followers an Instagram page with 800 Followers and a Website. We have customers who travel from The Woodlands, Richmond and far as Galveston. Our specialty is Cake Pops but we also make chocolate covered treats.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Trying to manage a young family and a small bakery business has its challenges.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our main specialty is classic and customized cake pops but we also make chocolate covered treats to match the cake pops. I’m known for the unusual requests for cake pops that I’ve managed to fulfill. I’ve made Margarita Glasses, Microphones, and Tiny Houses. I make many kid-themed characters etc but also cater for Weddings, Bridal Showers, Baby Showers, Communions, Graduations, etc.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I would love to have a commercial kitchen over the next few years and supply cake pops to some of the bigger chains.

Pricing:

  • $28 a dozen for Classic Cake Pops
  • From $38 a dozen for Customized Cake Pops
