Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie and Lori.
Hi Katie and Lori, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Katie: I began CrossFit in September of 2008, where I met my now husband and owner of Bayou City CrossFit. In July 2009 I became CrossFit level I certified. I was a member of the Bayou City CrossFit team during the 2011 and 2012 CrossFit Games. After four years of working towards various goals in CrossFit, I decided to go for my biggest one yet and make it back to the CrossFit games as an individual. I placed 9th in the 2013 South Central region. I hung up my competitor’s hat after having my first daughter but still continue to motivate others to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle. I understand how difficult it can be to raise a family while trying to put your health and fitness first, so I try to teach my clients that it’s not one size fits all, and to give yourself some grace from time to time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Katie: Co-owning a business with my husband is definitely not an easy street. My husband, Vic Zachary currently serves in the military and is often deployed which makes running a business while managing home life a little more challenging. Fortunately, I have the best coaches and community to help me through the process. I have definitely learned a lot (and still learning) and can say even on my worst days, it’s still all worth it
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Katie: I am a full-time coach and co-business owner. Running a small business has many trials and tribulations, but having a strong community helps us through tough times. I am most proud of the community we built alongside our amazing coaches. I love seeing how dedicated our clients become to their fitness and health over the years.
Lori: I’m a full-time Crossfit Coach and Personal Trainer. I am most proud of the connection I have with my client base – and the relationships we’ve built. I think my attention to detail and commitment to clients is what sets me apart.
What matters most to you?
Katie: ensuring that out clients at Bayou City are happy and that we are continuing to learn new ways to grow our business. I have heard many times that CrossFit is intimidating. I can understand that if you are basing your opinion off of The CrossFit Games or maybe another gym that did not offer the right modifications. It’s important to me that people know that Bayou City is a place where we welcome all fitness levels. We offer many modifications if needed and want you to get a great workout in and leave feeling good!
Lori: Clients believe in themselves and their abilities – inside and outside the gym. The workouts are an amazing vehicle to build confidence and strength that can be applied to all areas of life. I love when clients start to realize their potential and believe in themselves.
