Conversations with Kensy Suazo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kensy Suazo.

Hi Kensy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I first picked up a camera, I never imagined it would completely change my life. Photography started as a passion, but it quickly became a calling. Over ten years ago, my husband and I began building what is now Babies & Bumps Photography with one simple goal: to create beautiful memories for families while giving every client an unforgettable experience.

Like many small business owners, our journey wasn’t easy. We faced financial challenges, moments of uncertainty, and countless long nights as we built a business while raising our family.

As our business grew, I discovered my true passion: maternity photography. Pregnancy is one of the most transformative moments in a woman’s life, and I wanted every mother who stepped into my studio to feel beautiful, confident, and celebrated. That vision led us to create a luxury portrait experience where every detail—from wardrobe styling and professional hair and makeup to posing and artwork—is designed to make our clients feel extraordinary.

Today, Babies & Bumps Photography is one of Houston’s leading maternity photography studios, serving hundreds of families each year. We’ve been honored to photograph many clients through multiple milestones—from maternity and newborn to cake smash and family portraits—and there is no greater compliment than seeing them return year after year.

Along the way, photography also transformed me personally. It gave me confidence, purpose, and the opportunity to build a business that supports my family while doing something I truly love. More recently, I’ve started mentoring photographers who want to elevate both their artistry and their businesses because I believe there’s room for all of us to succeed when we’re willing to learn and grow.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Like most entrepreneurs, we have found our journey filled with challenges, and there have been many moments when giving up would have been the easier option.

One of our biggest struggles was learning that being a great photographer doesn’t automatically make you a successful business owner. In the beginning, we had to figure out everything—from pricing and marketing to client communication and building systems that would allow us to grow sustainably. We made mistakes, learned from them, and kept moving forward.

There were also personal challenges. Building a business while raising a family required countless sacrifices. Many weekends, late nights, and holidays were spent working behind the scenes. During the pandemic, like many businesses, we had to adapt quickly and completely rethink the way we served our clients. Instead of seeing it as a setback, we used it as an opportunity to improve our processes and elevate the experience we provide.

Perhaps one of the biggest lessons has been learning not to compare ourselves to others. Social media can make success look effortless, but every business has a story that people don’t see. We’ve learned to stay focused on our own vision, continue investing in education, and prioritize creating an exceptional experience rather than chasing trends.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Babies & Bumps Photography, we specialize in luxury maternity, newborn, and baby’s first-year portraiture. More than taking beautiful photographs, our mission is to create an unforgettable experience that celebrates one of the most meaningful chapters in a family’s life.

We are best known for our editorial-style maternity portraits that combine timeless elegance with a personalized luxury experience. Every session is thoughtfully designed—from access to our curated client wardrobe and professional hair and makeup to expert posing and a welcoming studio environment—so our clients can simply enjoy the moment and feel their absolute best. Many of the women who come to us tell us they’re nervous about being in front of the camera, and seeing their confidence grow throughout the session is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

What makes me most proud isn’t the awards or recognition—it’s the relationships we’ve built over the years. Many of our clients first meet us during pregnancy and continue returning for newborn sessions, cake smashes, family portraits, and even future pregnancies. Being invited back to document a family’s journey year after year is the greatest compliment we could ever receive.

I believe what truly sets us apart is that we don’t simply offer photo sessions—we create an experience. We intentionally limit the number of clients we photograph so every family receives the time, attention, and care they deserve. From the first inquiry to the delivery of their final artwork, every detail is designed to make our clients feel valued, comfortable, and genuinely celebrated.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is my family and the impact I have on the people who trust me with their most meaningful memories.

Family has always been the reason behind everything I do. My husband and I built this business together, and every milestone we’ve achieved has been the result of teamwork, sacrifice, and a shared dream.

Professionally, what matters most is how my clients feel. Beautiful photographs are important, but the confidence a woman gains during her maternity session, the tears of joy when parents see their newborn portraits, or hearing a client say, “I’ve never felt this beautiful before,” is what stays with me long after the session is over.

I also believe in leaving a legacy beyond photography. If my work can help families preserve memories they’ll treasure for generations, inspire another entrepreneur to chase their dream, or remind someone to see their own beauty and worth, then I’ve accomplished something far greater than simply taking pictures.

At the end of the day, cameras, awards, and businesses are wonderful, but people are what truly matter. Relationships, kindness, and the memories we help preserve are what last.
