Today we’d like to introduce you to Keston Meighoo Stage Name (blvkrose)
Hi Keston, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I go by Blvkrose — I’m a DJ and producer out of Houston, mostly pushing deep tech house and honestly, everything started pretty naturally for me. I didn’t come into this with some big plan — I was just drawn to music and started experimenting, messing around with sounds, seeing what felt right. But looking back, I think it’s always been in me. I grew up around music — my dad was a DJ and also built out sound systems and speakers back home. My mom was a singer, and a lot of my family were musicians too. So music was always playing around me — whether it was in the house, at family gatherings, or just in the background of everyday life.
Over time, what started as just curiosity turned into something deeper. It became a space for me to express myself — to release what I couldn’t always put into words. That’s really when I started to find my sound. I naturally gravitated toward house music — especially that deep tech, minimal style. It felt honest… stripped back, but still full of feeling. And being from the Caribbean, that rhythm and groove are just in me — even if it comes through in a subtle way.
Outside of that, I’ve always been inspired by that moody, emotional kind of energy — the type of music that sits with you. It’s not trying too hard, but it still makes you feel something. That’s the kind of atmosphere I try to create — something you don’t just hear, but you feel. A little melancholic, a little smooth, but still has movement.
The name Blvkrose came from that same idea — the contrast between softness and edge. Something that holds weight, but still has beauty. It just felt like the right reflection of what I’m trying to express through the music, and honestly, a reflection of who I am as a person.
I’ve also got a lot of love for the underground scene here in Houston. There’s something raw and real about it. I just want to add to that in my own way — bringing in those R&B textures and moods I grew up on, and blending them into this space. Music that’s not loud for the sake of it, but still leaves an impression.
Right now, I’m just taking things step by step — releasing music, playing sets, building with people, and staying grounded in what feels real to me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I feel like every artist deals with self-doubt — wondering if you’re good enough, if people will connect with what you’re creating, or if you’re even moving in the right direction. I’ve had plenty of those moments.
One of the biggest challenges has been finding my sound — and honestly, I’m still figuring it out. It’s evolving, it’s adapting, and I think that’s part of the beauty in it. I’m not fully there yet, and I’m okay with that. There’s still a lot of room to grow, and I’m just letting it unfold naturally.
Balancing that with real life isn’t always easy either. I work a 9 to 5, so there are days where I’m drained, but I still try to show up creatively. Some days it flows, some days it doesn’t — and not knowing what tomorrow brings can be a lot. But I keep pushing because this means something to me. It’s about building something that feels real and honest.
So yeah, it’s been a journey — not perfect, not always smooth, but it’s mine. And I’m still learning through all of it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Yeah, so I’m a music producer and DJ — I mostly lean into house music, but more on the deep tech, minimal side. That’s the sound that really speaks to me — it’s stripped back, but still has movement, emotion, and a certain bounce that pulls you in. I try to create music that feels good in a room, but also carries a mood… something you can feel even outside the club setting.
I think what I’m most proud of is just staying true to what feels right creatively. I don’t try to follow trends or make what’s “hot” — I just try to create what feels honest in the moment. I’m still evolving, still growing into my sound, but I feel like there’s a certain energy in what I do that people connect with — something smooth, emotional, but still groovy.
What probably sets me apart is the blend of influences I carry — coming from the Caribbean, having a background rooted in rhythm, and also being inspired by those atmospheric, late-night sounds that make you feel something deeper. I’m not trying to be loud or flashy — I’m more about setting a tone, creating a space, and letting the music speak for itself.
At the end of the day, I just want the music to feel real — not forced, not overcomplicated… just honest. And if people connect with that, then I feel like I’m doing something right.
How do you think about happiness?
For me, it’s the simple things. Just having the space to create without pressure — that brings me peace. Whether I’m working on music, digging for sounds, or just vibing in the studio, that’s where I feel most grounded. Everything slows down a bit, and I can just be present.
I also really enjoy connecting with people — not just through music, but through conversation. I like hearing how people think, how they see the world. There’s something special about listening to different perspectives — it brings me joy. It reminds me that there’s always more to learn, more ways to see life. Those kinds of conversations tend to stick with me and sometimes even inspire the way I approach my music.
And when the music reaches people — whether it’s during a set or just someone catching a vibe on their own — that means a lot. Those moments feel real.
Outside of that, just being around good energy — my family, my people, the quiet in-between moments!
