Today we’d like to introduce you to King David.
Hi King, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in music started on my 16th birthday when I got my first guitar. As I got better at playing, my dad came to me with an idea: we were going to make songs together. That simple conversation changed the course of my life.
For the next few years, we created music as a team under the name Blood And Family. Our sound blended elements of nu metal, deathcore, and hip-hop. My dad wrote most of the lyrics while I produced the beats, handled much of the recording, and performed the majority of the vocals. On many songs, we shared vocal duties and built a creative partnership that became the foundation of everything I do today.
We spent about two to three years making music together before my dad unexpectedly passed away. Losing him was devastating. After his death, I stepped away from the darker style of music we had built together and experimented with a more funk-rock sound. That chapter gained me a small but dedicated following on SoundCloud, but deep down I knew I wasn’t finished with the music that had started it all.
Eventually, I found my way back to the darker, heavier sound that my dad and I had created together. I released a song called “Round and Round,” my first return to that style since his passing. The song quickly gained traction on TikTok and introduced my music to a much larger audience. From there, things began to grow rapidly.
Today, I continue to create music under the name King David, blending hip-hop, metal, and alternative influences into my own unique sound. While my music has evolved over the years, the foundation remains the same: a passion that started with a guitar, a father who believed in me, and a creative partnership that still inspires everything I do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, compared to many artists, my journey has been relatively smooth. Of course, there have been challenges, but I’ve been fortunate to avoid a lot of the setbacks that can stop people from pursuing music altogether.
One of the biggest obstacles I faced happened during my first tour with Buffalo Farm. Before the final show in Atlanta, I suffered a serious knee injury. Looking back, I probably should have sat that show out, but I knew there were fans coming to see me and I didn’t want to let them down. I ended up performing on one leg, using crutches before and after getting on stage.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an independent artist who creates music under the name King David. My sound blends hip-hop, metal, alternative rock, and horror-inspired influences into something that’s difficult to place in a single genre. I’ve always been drawn to artists who weren’t afraid to break rules and create their own lane, and that’s the approach I take with my music.
What makes my career unique is that I handle nearly every aspect of the creative process myself. I write, record, produce, mix, and master my own music, which allows me to bring my vision to life exactly the way I hear it. That level of creative control has helped me develop a sound and identity that feels authentic to who I am.
A lot of my music is inspired by personal experiences, struggles, and emotions, but it’s also heavily influenced by the darker side of human nature. I try to create a world that listeners can escape into while still finding pieces of themselves in the music. I could care less who gets offended by anything i have to say in my music because it is my truth and it is coming from a very real place that a lot of people i feel are scared to say out loud.
Over the years, I’ve built an audience through platforms like TikTok and Spotify, earning millions of streams and connecting with listeners who relate to being different, misunderstood, or outside the mainstream. My goal has never been to fit into a trend—it’s been to create music that is honest, memorable, and meaningful to the people who listen to it.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What i like best is the food!!! do i need to say more?? my least favorite thing about Houston however is it doesn’t really have a big alternative scene which makes it a bit harder to do shows here.
