Conversations with Kyle Howard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Howard

Hi Kyle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Wavy Cookie’s story starts with family roots. Growing up, my mom ran a small cookie business, and I helped by making the dough while she worked her full-time job. Decorating wasn’t my thing back then—but in 2017, I revisited her recipe with a creative twist and felt inspired to decorate.

What began as an experiment turned into something special, with orders coming in not just from Houston but across the U.S. We offer custom designs for birthdays, weddings, and special events, and the support from the Houston community has been incredible.

I named my business The Wavy Cookie to reflect the waves of flavor and my unique, nontraditional approach as a Black male baker. Along the way, I’ve added innovative flavors like “Brown Butter Baby” and “ButterScotch Rum,” continually evolving while staying true to creating meaningful, delicious experiences. Today, I’m proud to build a brand that blends my mom’s legacy with my own creative vision.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The Wavy Cookie has come with many challenges. Testing new flavors takes patience and persistence. Being a one man show means, long nights and early mornings, especially while balancing a full-time job. Building a brand has it challenges, but my entrepreneurial spirit and the joy I see on customers’ faces make it all worth it. Their support and positive feedback fuel my passion and keep me striving for more.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At The Wavy Cookie, We specialize in personalized custom sugar cookies and offer delicious flavors like “Lemon Drop”, a zesty citrus twist, and “OG Vanilla”, a classic buttery vanilla cookie with a smooth finish. These flavors, combined with detailed designs, make my cookies perfect for weddings, birthdays, and corporate events.

We are also known for The Wavy Cookies signature drop cookies, including “Brown Butter Baby” and “ButterScotch Rum”, which are customer favorites. What sets me apart is the care I put into both flavor and artistry, making each cookie truly memorable.

What sets The Wavy Cookie apart is my ability to blend creativity with flavor. Our cookies not only look amazing but also taste incredible. Being a Black male baker in this space, I bring a fresh, bold style to cookie decorating, which resonates with my customers. We want The Wavy Cookie to be reflect culture and bring smiles to the community.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I’ve found guidance and inspiration through my mom and the social networks groups I’m a part of. My mom’s experience with her own small cookie business has been invaluable—her work ethic and creativity laid the foundation for my journey. Additionally, I’ve connected with other entrepreneurs in groups and events where we share advice and support one another.

If you don’t have a mentor, look to people in your life and your networks who can offer insights and motivation—they can be just as impactful!
