Today we’d like to introduce you to LaPorcha Whitfield.
Hi LaPorcha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I come from an area where people are less likely to succeed which is South Park (Dead End) is what they call it. I grew up very troubled and didn’t even think I would make it to see 21. One day I decided to audition for ANTM (America’s Next Top Model) Although I did not get selected I knew I had a fire in me that could never be put out. At the age of 27, I woke up and had an epiphany. I wanted to be a tattoo artist. I ordered a tattoo starter kit from Walmart and I never looked back. I have been tattooing for 5 years now self-taught. I have been modeling for 13 years. I am an independent artist and my Business is called The Tattoo Dreamer. I am mobile but I operate mostly out of the Westchase District area. Becoming a tattoo artist has made me feel whole. I enjoy the genuine support that I get from people all around the United States. My heart sparks when I see how happy a client is after each session. I have recently been on a new B.E.T tv series hosted by Bow Wow. As well as writing a new book that will be in all retail stores next year. I plan to continue to be a light for young girls who have counted themselves out. I just want people to know you can do anything and be whoever you want in this life. We all have that light inside of us that is just waiting to be seen. I appreciate all the support from family and friends in my endeavors and I plan to continue to represent for my city. Please remember the name because LaPorcha Whitfield is the brand.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
After leaving a 6-year relationship, I decided to start my tattoo journey. The most struggle I have had since starting this journey is finances. I’m not the richest person, but I do my best to live comfortably. I struggled working 2 jobs for years just to be able to buy equipment and products for my business. In the world that we live in people don’t support you off the bat. You have to be popular and have to prove yourself before you can even get a simple share or like. Being that I was a new female tattoo artist which is a male-dominated industry, I didn’t feel that I could lean on anyone for tips or support to be the best I could be.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most known for being a beautiful model and secondly becoming a tattoo artist. I specialize in lettering when it comes to tattoos. I also specialize in being beautiful and being the life of the party. I am most proud of the new TV show After happily Ever After on B.E.T hosted by Bow Wow. I have been accepted on many reality tv shows but this was the first one that I completed. I am also proud of the new book that I wrote. I have been through so much in my life that I want to tell people there is light at the end of the tunnel. No matter how long the tunnel may seem. What sets me apart from others is that I know who I am. Not who I wanna be but who I am. I am a Black Queen. I know that there is nothing in this world that I can’t do. I am ambitious, tenacious. And I believe in myself.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would advise any persons that is out here at least trying to be somebody to keep going. There are a lot of nobodies out there but you have to decide who you want to be. Stay dedicated, stay humble, and never give up.
