Conversations with Leroy Bella

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leroy Bella

Hi Leroy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began djing in late 1999 and started music production in early 2004. My love of music pushed me to do these things earning local shows in the Houston area and then in the later years touring all over the US from LA to NYC to Miami. It allowed me to play for big brands such as Red Bull, Smirnoff, Toyota and many more. The love of music also allowed me to create my own brands and record labels as well. I run a brand called Club South that is a music record label and helps promote artist from the South mainly from Houston.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles have been real for sure. With the over abundance of
Deejays in the city the DJ pool is very competitive. Venues are hard to come by and there is a lot of gate keeping involved in that process. Houston is a big enough city , so why can’t everyone have a place to play?

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work a full time job to support myself and my family but I am also a creative. I have 20+ years djing and in music production. I also run a brand Club South and record label that supports Houston based djs and producers of music. My goal is helping pushing new djs and unknown djs to newer heights. There is so much unseen talent in Houston.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The industry changes but always comes back to the same points. Everything is recycled and done over by a new set of people.
