Conversations with Lesley Fontenot

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lesley Fontenot

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a Texas native living on Galveston Island and serving the Greater Houston area in the real estate field. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology. After almost 20 years in the school system, working in both general education and special education, I have transitioned into the world of real estate and am loving it! I have always had a deep love for design and loved exploring different houses, as well as a love for helping people. Now I get to combine those passions in the fields of real estate transformations, staging, home styling, and helping people buy, sell, and lease the homes of their dreams! My husband and I also buy old, rundown homes and make them beautiful again! This is my favorite part of real estate!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During my first full year in real estate (2023), I sold 9 houses and fascilitated multiple lease transactions. It was a pretty good year! Then 2024 hit and it was a hard year. The market was very slow and as a still relatively new agent, I was struggling. I was working in a brokerage that I liked, but also did not feel like I was receiving the training and support that I really needed as a new agent. So in September of 2024, I reached out to a friend that was in real estate about her recent brokerage switch. She invited me to join her team, the GTX Realty Group team, led by Ashley Marquez through Keller Williams Horizons. This has been the best thing for my business! I am learning and growing and have so much hope for my future as a real estate agent!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a GTX Realty Group agent, I love helping people find their dream homes, but I also have a deep love for flipping houses, staging, and design. There’s something so rewarding about transforming a space, bringing out its full potential, and making it beautiful.

Whether I’m revitalizing a flip, staging a listing to maximize its appeal, or guiding clients through the buying and selling process, my goal is always to create inviting, stylish, and functional spaces. I have an eye for design and a knack for knowing what buyers love, and I use that to help sellers showcase their homes in the best possible light.

For me, real estate isn’t just about transactions—it’s about making things pretty, adding value, and helping people feel at home.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I have a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology and a whole career as a teacher and then Special Education Counselor/Case manager. I loved that career for many years, but changed careers in my mid 40’s.
