Conversations with Lillar Rhodes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lillar Rhodes.

Hi Lillar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After working multiple jobs in my early adulthood life, I finally stepped out on faith and did the ONE thing that made me feel complete. After pursuing the basic education that was needed to take my skill to the next level, I decided that I wanted more and I became more knowledgeable in my field. I wanted to know everything and do everything. Everything Hair intrigued me. Now I’m A Master Stylist & Healthy Hair Educator.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was not easy. At all. Finding the time to go back to school after 10yrs to pursue my education while being a full time employee, full time mom & full time spouse was my biggest struggle. I had to remain focused and understand that what I wanted for myself and my future was definitely different than what was presented and I had to Go Get It.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
have been a licensed cosmetologist for 11 years. I’m currently in a suite in the Katy area. I attended Paul Mitchell School Houston 3 yrs ago to become a Licensed Cosmetology Instructor. I absolutely love doing hair, and I enjoy my relationships with my clients as well. The greatest thing I ever done in life was become a mother to six children. They all are my BFF’s; Diovion 20yrs old, Ahmir 15years old, Zyier 14years old, Ja’Leah 10years old and a set of twins Myracle & Michael 7years old. Our bond is out of this world. They are the reason I get up every morning and the reason I rush home every night. Pushing them to be their absolute best and reminding them that they can be all things and not one thing is what helps me push myself to be who I inspire to be. I’m currently branding myself. It’s a representation of me. I am #HoustonsLocal #1Hairstylist/Educator.

What’s next?
Hair & Education is a really big passion of mine. With that comes great training and continuous education. My career goal is to become the Best Cosmetology Instructor/ Educator I can be to my community. With my educator career, I began my own 1-1 educational courses for Houston’s Local #1 Hairstylist Education & Training Academy. I also just began my very own non-profit called Family Matters32 for family evolvement, education, encouragement, and training to the community. I can cook very well so plans of a family food truck is in the working process. Be Ready.
