Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Thomason.
Hi Lindsay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started The Nanny League in 2010 in Los Angeles, CA, after leaving an entertainment career and becoming a full-time, live-in nanny. It was in this role that I wore many hats and saw first-hand the need for quality childcare. The Nanny League was one of the first agencies ever to require a degree for its candidates. Since inception, we have been dedicated to matching families with college-educated, highly competent, creative, and nurturing individuals.
I attribute my passion for matchmaking to what I learned while studying at Syracuse’s Newhouse School, particularly in the power of networking: “It’s not always what you know; it’s who you know!” This motto has been something I have taken with me throughout my entrepreneurship journey.
Now, thirteen years later, we service all 50 states, and our female-led team is dedicated to matching the country’s top professionals, celebrities, and influencers with our vast network of exceptional nannies & other household professionals. I still absolutely love connecting people together, both professionally and personally, and find joy in yoga, hiking, and cherished moments spent with family.
My commitment to child safety is deep-rooted, and I am grateful to serve as an Associate for Stop the Silence® and on the Advisory Board for the Erin Levitas Foundation. It is my mission to ensure that we are teaching our kids the importance of body safety and educating our caregivers about child sexual abuse prevention & mitigation. We helped create the first-ever online training program for nannies, and all of our members take part in the course before interviewing with our clients.
After living over a decade in southern and northern California, then a handful of years in Austin, my family is grateful to now reside just outside of Houston in The Woodlands, TX. We absolutely love it here!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Regardless of the challenges we may face on a weekly, sometimes daily basis, we like to tackle any challenge head-on with open communication. Whether it is a client not wanting to pay their invoice on time, nanny/ family conflict resolution, or an over-eager candidate stalking the internal office, we meet people where they are with grace and patience. You never know what someone is going through to make them react a certain way. We try to be as diplomatic as possible, regardless of the scenario!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We proudly staff full-time, long-term & temporary nannies, newborn care specialists, household managers, personal assistants, private educators, nanny shares, corporate & collegiate backup care, and on-site event nannies. Whether a seasoned nanny or a fresh-faced nanny out of college, all our applicants go through a thorough vetting process that includes a background check, a rigorous vetting process that includes a background check, federal & state criminal history & driving record, Megan’s Law clearance, transcript verifications, and a thorough reference review. This process is done meticulously to guarantee a high probability of success. All nannies are instructed to maintain the utmost discretion and confidentiality and must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement if desired.

Unlike our competitors, we do not charge an application, registration, or interview process fee. Payment is due when you have signed the contract with your new hire.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
“Fake it til you make it” and “If you build it, they will come!” have been the two ongoing mottos throughout my entrepreneurship journey.
I always envisioned The Nanny League getting to where it is today, and I am ready to take it even further. I set my intention each day to lead with integrity and to treat everyone with kindness and respect. No matter what, you are only as good as your last placement.
I would advise anyone just starting out to build their community of like-minded leaders. Seek out your competitors befriend them. Look for local business support groups & committees, strengthen your presence on social media… network, network, network! Networking is truly the secret sauce; the more you put yourself out there, the more connections you have, the better. Those connections turn into referrals; the referrals turn into clients, which ultimately help build your business in the most authentic way!
