Conversations with Liza Rivera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liza Rivera.

Liza Rivera

Hi Liza, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Like many women, I have struggled with my weight since I was in highschool. This led to me having low self esteem, anxiety and depression. I spent a part of my life believing that I was less than, because of the way that I looked. It wasn’t until I completely surrendered my heart to Jesus that my perspective began to change. He began to heal those areas in my life that I had given up on. It has been a long journey to get to where I am now, but I couldn’t have done it without the love of Jesus Christ. I now walk in the confidence that only God can give; not worried about what the world or society says I am. I know who I am because I know Whose I am. Blessed Babes came out of my desire to empower women and myself to be who God created them to be while also living a healthy lifestyle. This may sound crazy but it wasn’t until I invited God into my health journey that I started seeing changes physically, mentally and spiritually.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been easy and I’m still learning new things about myself along the way. Self-image was always a struggle for me; so much so, that it took so many years before I could even look at myself in the mirror and be happy with who I saw looking back. I remember the exact moment it happened, in the Shake Shack restroom, I looked up into the mirror and for the first time in my life I could see myself the way God saw me. Created in His image; beautifully and wonderfully made.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder of Blessed Babes Walk Club — a women’s faith and wellness community that gathers weekly to walk, connect, and grow spiritually. Women from all walks of life are welcomed to join us in being active. We have moms, single women, entrepreneurs & small business owners. Tthere is someone you can connect to.

I was a worship leader for many years and have gotten to share my passion through Blessed Babes. At the end of our walks, I like to take a moment to lead us in worship and prayer. Sometimes life can become very busy that we lose sight of what’s really important, like our faith. Taking a moment to be still and allow God to move could lead to someone’s break through.

We have already participated in two 5K Run/Walks this year and my hope is to encourage women and myself to continue to go after a healthy lifestyle. It may not look the same for everyone. Whether you can only walk 1 mile or you can run 5; the point is to start somewhere. When you ask God to be a part of it, anything is possible.

I’m most proud or fulfilled when I hear women say “I needed this” or “I’m so glad I came out today”. It motivates me to continue on my own health journey and is a reminder that we are not alone in this. My hope is to provide a safe space for women to come and be themselves.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I see succes not just as your own personal achievement, but as making a lasting impact in the world. For me, true success is using the gifts God has given me to uplift others and inspire change. My faith reminds me that everything I do should glorify God and serve His people. I want to be remembered by how I loved, served and reflected Jesus in the world around me.
