Conversations with Marcus Carr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Carr.

Hi Marcus, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Music has always been a major part of my life growing up. My dad instilled in me at a young age a passion for music and how music can impact people’s moods. So being that I love music and I have always loved to entertain, it was only natural that God saw fit to design me to be a DJ. It allows me to bring both aspects together.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The process to becoming the DJ I am today came from trusting in God and his timing. I can remember in 2014 while in the middle of DJing a party, someone coming up to me and saying my truck was on fire. I could’ve easily taken this as a sign to give up and stopped the party right then and there, But I took that moment ran outside, grabbed what I could save and went back in and we turned that party all the way up. Regardless, of what momentary setback I have encountered in life I know God has always made a way for me and my family. When I made the decision to step out on faith and become a full-time entrepreneur, I knew many would say I was crazy for leaving a lucrative position to trust the process and follow my dreams. However, I have never once regretted my decision.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

I have been crafting my DJing skillset for 13 years specializing in a high-energy, open format style. I provide first-class production and service for couples, clubs, and corporations. I’ve I have been able to DJ and/or provide sound and light production for various special events. Most recently, DJing for Houston’s South Texas College of Law, Home Depot, University of Southern Mississippi, my hometown Hattiesburg Mississippi and EssenceFest.

I have been blessed with a unique ability to blend new flavors with familiar sounds, creating a vibe that those from age 8 to 80 enjoy.

My future goal as a DJ is to continue to expand my brand and fanbase. When not DJing, I enjoy spending time with my wife Brandi, and my two daughters McKenzie and Angel. I love cooking, and working out in my spare time as well. I also own and operate a successful multi-media graphic design company named Studio54 Multimedia.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Wow. My favorite childhood memory would have to be riding home from the coast with my parents. We would gas up and head to the coast to go shopping for the day. I always remember on the way back on to Hattiesburg, my pops would always buy me this huge canister of popcorn and we would listen to the Isley Brothers and Anita Baker all the way home. It was like a family concert.
