Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Vasquez.
Monica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
BlaqFriday Promotions began in the early months of 2021. It all began with a conversation with the Owner of Dorsey Distributing Ltd who mainly sources Black Owned Spirits in Texas. The conversation began with bringing awareness to minority owned Alcoholic Spirits and other Brands that would not get the same type of exposure as some of the larger brands would.
We talked extensively about brand awareness, Tasting Events, and Promotions. A large part of our conversation was focused on the esthetics of the tasting event, digital media, social media, and traditional advertising.
I had previously owned a Bar near Pasadena/South Houston area and have had these same conversations with distributors when they wanted to bring new items into my establishment. With that being said I knew the logistics that went behind a Tasting Events,Promotions, and advertising for new products.
While having this conversation with this local distributor we decided to collaborate on ideas. BlaqFriday Promotions became DDL exclusive Promotions Company and Events Coordinator for all events. These events included Tasting Events at Clubs, Bars, Liquor Stores. And Private Venues.
The rest is history!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing in life is easy. With that being said some of the obstacles I’ve encountered is customer buy in at events. Some customers were set in the Status quo, standard, and fear of the unknown.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My life outside of the Bar and Beverage industry is very diverse. I have worked as Management in Revenue Cycle Management and Analytics/ Finance since 1996 and the Government Sector since 2000.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My Father, Refugio Vasquez Jr. always told me to think for yourself and never follow the pack. The one thing that has worked well for me is stepping out side of the box. Stop doing conventional things and bring the unconventional to the party.
