Conversations with Neapolitan Scoop Podcast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neapolitan Scoop Podcast

Hi Neapolitan Scoop, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Rose, Stefanie, and Shay started off as 3 co-workers who worked closely together and often found themselves venting over work related issues and everyday life. Through the venting, they found that although they come from different backgrounds, their lives weren’t so different after all. Conversations started over simple discussions regarding work/life balance, adulting, relationships, parenting, and over all the challenges of being minority women. This lead them to thinking “we can’t be the only ones going through these issues.” They thought, “how interesting would it be to start a podcast?” Their first challenge was determining what their name would be. Then came the conversation about what they would call themselves. They wanted to ensure the name embodied their different nationalities. Rose is Central American (Hispanic), Stef Hispanic and African American, and Shay, Nigerian American (born and raised in America). After careful consideration and several brainstorming sessions, the famous Neapolitan Scoop was thought of. They chose Neapolitan Scoop Podcast due to the vanilla, strawberry and chocolate details of the ice cream which resembled each of them and their different backgrounds. Their first podcast episode launched on September 17th, 2023, since then they have added 3 series to their podcast. Scoop Tuesdays are live interactions with the public on Instagram, What the Fudge Wednesdays is an opportunity to get the opinions and perspectives from male counterparts, and Saucy Sundaes are post and pictures that feature networking and socializing events. Since launching on September 10th 2023 they have created over 40+ episodes, have had several guest features on the podcast, and have collaborated with other podcast shows.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Although conversation flows easily amongst the three women, there were a couple of challenges that Rose, Stef and Shay had to face as three women who held full time jobs and had no idea on how to run or manage a podcast. Selecting relevant topics, agreeing on recording dates, formats, as well as editing the material. With no experience in audio or video editing (or any podcasting for that matter) the three took it upon themselves to learn how to use editing software, they have held several content creation meetings, brainstorming sessions and continue to encourage each other to learn about newer technology. Occasionally, there is also the conflict of different personalities between the 3 of them, but this is encouraged as they would like listeners and viewers to get an authentic version of each ladies view and perspective on different subjects. The 3 continue to grow by communicating, learning how to best work as a team, and respecting each other’s views.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
All three of the ladies have Criminal Justice backgrounds.

– Rose has over 9 years of legal and criminal justice related experience. She has a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and a Masters in Criminal Justice. She is known for telling it like it is (sin pelos en la lengua like we say in Spanish). Rose is most proud of being a mother to a beautiful young lady (Amy) that is on her way to college, and overcoming the obstacles that came with being a 16 year old mother. Rose has been with her partner (Mabe) for 11 years strong (married for 5 of them) and acknowledges that having a supportive partner has made a difference when accomplishing goals, patenting and getting through those hurdles life can put on us.

– Stefanie Graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. She also holds a Paralegal Certification from the University of Houston. She is known as being very strong minded (she said what she said). She is most proud of her accomplishments especially overcoming the statistic of being a single teenage mother.

– Shay has 5 years of criminal justice experience. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Shay has a passion for Entrepreneurship and is the owner of 2 businesses; Quintessential Beauty Products LLC which specializes in Beauty products and Envision Here Travel LLC which offers Short Term Rental stays in the Houston area. Above all, she’s the mother of an amazing 8 year old (Nevaeh) and a proud dog mom of 3.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
“We think that people may be surprised at how serious we take the podcast. Others may be surprised by the fact that we put so much time and effort into the podcast and that we stuck with it. We are constantly communicating with each other through our Neapolitan Scoop Divas text thread, we have literally become really close in this adventure and have grown to be what we would say are close friends. It may also be surprising for people to find out that we don’t typically discuss our topics in depth prior to recording, what you hear us say during the recording is 100% authentic. We save our views for the recording and do sometimes disagree while recording. We joke a lot but we are very professional. “
