Today we’d like to introduce you to Neha Shetty.
Hi Neha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’d like to start off by thanking Voyage Houston for this amazing opportunity!
I’ve always felt like the dance studio was a place I could be myself and just getaway. From classical to Bollywood dance, I always liked to be a part of a team or group of dancers and keep myself busy. Growing up, I moved multiple times across the northeast before coming down to Texas. Adjusting to new environments was a challenge, but through dance, I found peace and long-lasting friendships. Today, I work full time and still continue to make content whenever I can. I thank my family for always supporting me in pursuing my choice of career as well as my passions. I believe my nomadic upbringing and experience in dancing on different teams have helped me become more confident and outgoing. I enjoy being in front of the camera and am always pushing myself to do my best in various endeavors. Before I decided to make content regularly around dance and fashion, I was very hesitant and stalled the process for a long time. Now, I look back and believe it’s the best decision I’ve made. I want to be able to inspire others who are starting out in dancing or in content creation just like I am. They should embrace their culture, passion and art however they want to without worrying about others and standards.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Moving around hindered me in staying consistent with dance or any extracurriculars I had. For some years I kept myself busy with sports but would always see how I can get involved in local events to dance or help choreograph. Once I moved to Texas and remained here for college, I was able to finally be on a traditional collegiate dance team, Raas, and find a family through it as well. I also took many opportunities in college to participate in dancing events, while growing my love for fashion/modeling. I realized that if I can be clear about my priorities, I’ll always find time to do what I love outside of work.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I believe what sets me apart is my persistence in making content around dance and fashion. I recently started this journey to take my social media more seriously and express my love for these areas. I want to continue to inspire other girls, especially in the Indian community, to be confident and not hold back their creative passions.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family matters the most to me! They have been there every step of the way, and continue to support me unconditionally. My sister is truly my best friend and favorite dance partner. Although we are 6 years apart, I’m thankful to say we are extremally close and help each other out a lot.
