Conversations with Nia Lamar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Lamar.

Hi Nia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Nia Lamar, born in New Orleans, Louisiana. I moved to Texas when I was 5 years young, in hopes for a better education and more opportunities. In my heart, early on I knew I was destined to be bigger than I thought I could ever be. I had a purpose to sell a service, Execute a service and be very educational while I’m giving my all for a client. I found an interest in credit when I got my first credit card my Freshman year of college at Prairieview A&M University. Graduating high school at the age of 16 and being a 3 year graduate, I took on quite a few Leadership Roles throughout my college journey. One being the President of PVSNA which was Prairie View Student Nursing Association, I also was a cheerleader for the 4 year University and truly loved every part of being a student at a Historically Black College or University. That place sure does produce productive people! Growing up my mom was very intuitive when it came to having good credit. Being so young with my first credit card, which knowingly of course this may be the biggest mistake, of course didn’t go so well. Fast forward to 2019 after working countless hours as a Pre- School Teacher, sacrificing everything to be able to afford day care expenses for my baby boy Teighan. I landed a job at HLP Credit Solutions. This job was a blessing in disguise because that’s when I really learned the general basis of credit, how to maintain my credit profile and also restore my credit. Not only that, I was able to buy my first home at just 26 years old! Chekelah Phelps you are an amazing woman, mother, and Boss. Your mentorship, knowledge is impeccable. Unfortunately, the job wasn’t able to help me grow further into my profession, so I picked up another trade doing Microblading/Microshading eyebrows. Adding to my batch of talents, I also was able to gain new clients and more revenue with my hair and makeup business as well! One little thing to take from all of this is to know your WORTH! All the energy you give to other companies, if you’re able, apply that to your very own business. Know what God put you in the world to be the best version of yourself. If your current job isn’t making your the happiest human being, or uncomfortable honey it is time to move on for your greater blessings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“If the road isn’t bumpy, I don’t want it!” Of course, there will be struggles anywhere you go. The biggest struggle for me was when I picked up a 9-5 sometimes till 6:30pm jobs and wasn’t treated at all with respect. My abilities to help the company grow, my outgoing personality, my work ethic was all foreshadowed by companies being comfortable in their own ways. After being a preschool teacher for a few years and even after the Credit Repair company. I was hired at Bank of America, my first what you call “Big Girl Job”. I was looking for ways to be able to afford my bills, and give my family the best life they could imagine. If it was giving more salary. I was taking it. But I also was so unhappy. I couldn’t attend to my on demand clients. I couldn’t look at my clients credit report because I’m learning the trainings for BOA, my kiddo would get home from school and I was simply exhausted and couldn’t give my all to my son and spouse. The entire time you’re working, you’re planning ways to apply whatever it may be to your own business, thinking my personality is “to big” to be told what to say, how to say it and when to ask it. So, I created NL ENTERPRISES. A company made of different dynamics, all pure genuine energy in the business and built from my heart and soul of finding my own way as a mother, twin sister, daughter, niece, friend who gets everyone ready for the party, a friend who wants everyone to be a part of something special and thrive in whatever their calling is to be! I support you 10000% because it is not a smooth road. Always look for the bumpy roads they come with more goodies in between.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
NL Enterprises is magical! It is made up of different dynamics and talents. I am your hairstylist. Makeup artist. Microblading/Powder Brow artist, and lastly the lady that will make sure you obtain a healthy credit profile and have a 700 credit score or better! It was built in thought of every woman or man who has a small business and want to turn it into a global corporation. Where you can’t be afraid to ask for marketing structure or advice or share knowledge comfortably without thinking someone will steal your ideas. That’s the thing everyone thinks so negative about helping one another. I take it this way. You walk into a grocery store and there are how many different kinds or bread? They have their own packaging, own color, own recipe, own bake times. Yet they are ALL sold in one place. Your near grocery store. Regardless of how many there is, there is enough bread for everyone, because I guarantee everyone doesn’t like wheat bread. I am known for giving you real life scenarios on how the world works and educate my community that if you feel in your heart you’re meant to do something greater than what you are now, DO IT! Your ideas you have in your head, continue to thrive off of that drive. When you’re thinking about it, do it.!

My proudest moment was when I could resign my position at Bank of America and make my paycheck in 2 hours. It’s very true, doing so, that has led me to my 3rd, 10k month in revenue!

I remember I was so afraid of what my family may say, keeping it a secret for months that I resigned my job but telling them every accomplishment I made with my business and slowly seeing them change perspectives of maybe this is the first person in the family to change the dynamics of being your own boss. Creating my own work schedule and not being subject to one place and one shift. Breaking this standard generational pattern has encouraged my family to start their own businesses and hopefully, soon enough they won’t be able to manage a 9-5 because business is booming! I’m due time of course.

What sets me apart from others is I support ANYONE who has a career based off what field of study they may have graduated in.. A job where they have been at since they started working, whatever the case may be. Nothing in life is Free, but I will support every hustle in your body as long as you’re consistent in your craft!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOUSTON. I travel back and forth from Houston to Dallas quite often, as I have clients all over the United States. We all know of Houston Traffic but that is the same for which ever city you reside in. More people creates more jobs, creating more opportunities to create more revenue! The culture the hustle in this city is impeccable. Houston was one of the first areas to start Microblading/ Ombré powder brows. It’s the land of opportunity in my eyes.
