Conversations with Paulina Morales

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulina Morales

Hi Paulina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Paulina Yabindranauth, and I am proud to be part of a family that has always been driven by passion, and an unyielding work ethic. With roots from Mexico City, my parents Julio and Adriana, sister, Barbara (now 12) and I (24) came to the United States with dreams and aspirations in our hearts, as many other millions of families do.

It all began with a life-changing moment when we were unexpectedly invited to a stranger’s wedding while shopping. Before you knew it, within a few months we were pitching dessert table ideas to the venue we attended that night! My love for baking and creativity, which had grown since childhood, found its outlet when I designed my first dessert table for my quinceañera at 15. Encouraged by my parents boldness and talent for building relationships, we launched Dessert Bar B&P. Creating an opportunity for myself an immigrant to have a job opportunity, and that now have created job opportunities for others.

Dessert Bar B&P quickly became known not just for its dessert tables and decorations but for the memories we helped create. We’ve been lucky enough to watch our clients grow, from bridal showers to weddings to baby showers and beyond, from humble beginning to mansions being purchased! The relationships we’ve built are as important as the work we do—we grow with our clients, celebrating every step of their journey.

As our business grew we’ve been gifted the opportunity to work with Children’s Awareness Cancer foundations, partnered with realtors across Houston, doctors, talented and hardworking individuals, continuously expanding our network and giving back to the community that welcomed us!

Now, with Velvet Event Space, an event space here in Houston we continue to create and inspire. Every event, every client, every moment is an opportunity for us to craft something beautiful, and we couldn’t be more proud of where this journey has taken us!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Over the years, we have gathered so many success stories but we’ve definitely encountered our share of challenges, but each one has made us stronger—not just as a family, a business, but as individuals too.

Being away from our close family, and extended family has been tough, but in a way has brought us closer together. We’ve learned to rely on one another, and that has strengthened our bond beyond measure.

As well, the complexities of expanding a business without access to certain resources has been challenging, but it has also made us more resourceful and resilient. We’ve found creative solutions, learned to adapt, and grown more confident in our ability to overcome obstacles.

Each challenge has pushed us to work better as a team, trust each other’s strengths, and approach every situation with determination. At the end, these experiences have shaped us into who we are today, and we wouldn’t be where we are without them!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our family business is all about delivering our creations to every event! We handle it all, from balloon arrangements, custom cakes, and desserts to beautifully styled fruit tables, charcuterie boards, and even handmade piñatas! We are most known for full-production events.

What makes us different is that we handle every detail ourselves, from the creative designs to the final setup. We take the time to truly understand what each client envisions, and we make it our mission to bring it to life with passion.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Since our beginnings, we’ve been so lucky to have crossed paths with amazing people throughout the years who have offered their support, put a word for us leading to more lucky encounters.

As well, it has been such a blessing to have had the opportunity to turn our passion into a thriving business. This journey has allowed us to grow in so many ways—thanks to this business, we’ve been able to purchase our home, I’ve bought my car, and, most importantly, I even met my husband through this industry. This business has truly been filled with nothing but blessings, and if you want to call it good luck, I’d agree. We are grateful every day for the opportunities it has brought us, and for the wonderful people we’ve met along the way.
